Was considering ordering some scent-lok clothing and giving it a try. never really believed in spending a ton of money on scent lok clothing, but i might be willing to buy some base layers (instead of a $250 scent lok coat or pants). I already have all the outer layers i need, so buying a base layer would make sense and also be much cheaper. Does anyone know if the base layers offer as much scent control as the outer layers? any information offered by experience or fact based is welcomed. thanks!

All I can tell you is that we use base layers as outer layers in the early Sept season cause its hot and we don't have any issues with scent control. So just from experience I would say they work and help

the way i look at it is all of this didnt exist 20-25 years ago and deer were being killed just like they are today. If you play the wind and wash your clothes properly, and spray down you will be fine. The wind is the key to not being scented. Ill admit 100% ill hunt in a less than ideal wind sometimes... but i do pay attention to it.

I was still a little baby 20-25 years ago, but i do use scent lok stuff and have been for the last 3 or 4 years. My thoughts are even if it helps the slightest little bit thats more of an advantage. I have bought all my stuff on clearance. Coveralls $80, base layers like $20, hat and face mask like %20 and $10 a piece... so it can be had for cheaper than retail.

I hunt 100% based on the fact that a mature buck unless rut crazy will follow sound mature buck survival traveling habits. Walking into or quartering into the wind is the top of this list of normal travels...terrain and safety factors can influence this oppositely obviously though. I say all this because I try to minimize my scent to the highest extreme through pre-season diets, shampoos/soaps, laundry detergent, scent lok apparel (insert any anti-scent clothing), and activated carbon powder because I know when push comes to shove and I know a buck is moving along a certain route with a certain wind condition and I don't have an ideal stand location for that wind....I will risk it when push comes to shove and I'll take whatever edge I can get.

I agree that yeah guys have been doing it for years without it...however most guys I know that get in close enough consistently more than not in bowseason do more than the average hunter.

I'm just asking if the base layers are as effective as the more expensive outer layers... I get that you could probably kill a deer in a prom dress while wearing high heels and your grammas perfume, and that you don't need scent lok clothes. Odds aren't in your favor though. I play the wind and pay attention to my scent, no need to lecture on it. Put it to you this way: If I can up my success a little bit by doing it affordably (cheap base layers), i would consider it. Not however going to be the guy that buys the $250 jacket and hunt in reckless abandon
