    Hi all,

I'm currently new to this site and have never been apart of any other sites/forums before. I decided to join for a couple reasons mostly because it can be difficult to find answers from articles and much easier from other hunters that aren't out to sell a certain product of their own, such as myself.

So on to my biggest question that I have had for awhile. Does scent elimination products really work? I have used a variety of scent killing sprays, deodorant, body washes, etc. etc... I am looking into buying my first scent controlling clothing this year and would like some feedback on what people think are the best types, brands, and also camo patterns. Also what other people do to control there scent while sitting in the stand. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. I will also add that I mostly bow hunt for white tails in the Midwest.

    Thanks,

    Gary

I go to great lengths for scent control, from my clothes to my body, boots and all my gear. I even spray my tree steps as i go up my trees to my stand and spray myself down a few times in my stand during the hunt. But i dont believe i can fool a deer's nose only hope he thinks i may be further away if he gets downwind of me. Maybe it only gives me confidence in my hunting but after hunting is a mental game. Stay downwind of the deer you are hunting is always the best advice.
And think of this every time you hunt a stand your odds go down so jump around and keep them guessing so try and make each hunt like it's your first time in.

Yes Scent Control clothing works. It gets really hot and humid here in the Southeast and you have to always be scent conscious. First of all, hunt high as often as you can. Once you get 20ft and above, scent diminshes drastically. I would not go over 30ft high. Your shot angles start to be too steep once the deer gets close. Hunt the wind as well. Know your wind direction at all times. Be aware of thermals as well when hunting early in the morning and in the evening. Dress in the field/woods as often as you can. This will help with reducing scent from sweating after you have walked to your stand. I like Scent Lok clothing. The Scent Lok Savana Ext is good for warm weather hunting. However, a good base layer makes the most difference. I use Enduraskin as my base layer. It is sold at BPS. They have a balaclava that is really good too. Most of the time I hunt in a BPS 3D Evolution Camo Suit and my base layers due to the hot weather here in NC. . I am sure all Scent Elimination clothing has their pros and cons. However, use Scent killer sprays in addition to whatever Scent Control clothing you buy. The guys here are a WELL of knowledge, pick their brains as much as you can. Once you get some ideas, look online and read reviews. I hope this helps! :tu:

I've had good lucking using under armour capture base layers and outerwear. I like the real tree AP pattern, and dead down wind is my preferred brand of scent eliminator products. I hunt Kansas and this combination works well.

I use dead down wind spray and a few carbon base layers and spray every time I get in the tree. When it comes to storage I have a scent lok bag and I actually went out and bought filter carbon you would use for a fish tank and got a very breathable bag and tore in with my gear.

I think scent elimination products can help some. That said always play the wind. I don't believe you can foola deers nose completely.

No such thing as scent elimination clothing. Some of the companies were sued a few years ago over this claim. Scent control clothing does help to some extent, but as soon as you sweat, fart, eat, drink, breath etc... A deer will bust you. Playing the wind and getting up a tree are your best chance IMO.

Scent elimination is impossible. We're constantly creating odor, whether it be from our skin, breath, etc. The best we can do is try to keep it to a minimum and hunt the wind.

The scent control clothing such as Scent Blocker may knock down your scent some, but I seriously doubt it will bring it to a level where its acceptable to a deer. If you've ever done research on activated carbon (the stuff in this type of clothing), you'll understand what I mean.

My regemin consists of a scent killing shower in the morning. I dress and spray down each layer of clothing I wear with Scent Away spray. I put my outer layers on at the truck before heading into the woods and spray those down well too. I try to wear a minimal amount of clothing into the stand, to keep from getting overheated and sweating too much. Hunt the wind.

I keep all my clothing in scent proof totes filled with baking soda, some dirt and pine limbs.

Thanks for all the feedback. I know we will never be able to completely eliminate our scent, but i was just curious as to what other people had to say.
