I used to use either that or something similiar but most commercial detergents even though they may be scent free, contain UV brighteners...Now I just play it safe and use atsco
I wonder how anyone killed deer before this scent craze took off? I'm not knocking anyone because I've got all the no scent crap as well. I watched Fred bear kill a moose the other night with a long bow, homemade arrows, no camo, and defiantly no scent control products. Hell I think the guy that was with him was smoking a pipe the whole time.
you may want to read the label again...unless something has changed, the last ingrediant is/was "optical brighteners"...guess what that is?
I just use baking soda to wash my hunting clothes, and hang them outside to dry. Then they are packed away in rubbermaid totes, with a bundle of aromatic weeds from our property. Has always worked well for me.
I use Tink's wash. Baking soda in the box for storage. otherwise everything gets hung outside from start of season till close of season in January.
I have been using the Evolve 3D wash and have had good luck with it. Lots of deer within 20 yards this season hunting on the ground. I will use it until I have reason to believe it doesn't work.
I have been using frebreze free in the field. I have had deer all around me and never got busted??? I was also 25 feet above them so... As far as detergent goes, I use scent killer, and hang dry. Not sure it does a whole lot but ill try anything to tip the odds in my favor.
I would be terrified to use any of the store bought stuff from the grocery aisle. I'm not saying there isn't some things in there that would be fine, I just don't have the time or energy to worry about which. The absolute best stuff I've used to date is Sportwash. I don't know what it is, but my clothes seem to come out cleaner with it. Plus its supposed to help restore loft in insulations as well. I believe its noticeable.
My wife uses ALL Free and Clear for the families laundry, which is nice because the washer is scent free. However, it has UV Brighteners so, I use Regular baking soda and dry with a Hunters specialties dry sheet. Done.
uv cant say for sure, honestly dont know...but why take a chance when the problem has an easy fix?....One main reason for concern was this...more than once I've had a deer walking upwind of me, I'm watching it so I know I didn't move, then out of nowhere it stops and turns its head 90 degrees and looks right at me!....did the wind swirl a little and throw my scent out there? maybe...is it some kind of sixth sense? maybe.. but there have been scientific studies that can show way better than I can explain that deer see in different wavelengths then humans can. so to me it makes sense and is very possible...ever take a black light to something and see how it glows? I think some clothes/fabrics make look like this to deer...Obviously its only a guess but like I said, its an easy fix and I can eliminate the possibility, why not?
