I am a new bow hunter looking for early season gear. Is scent blocker worth the money? What should I be looking at for early season gear for September and october in Minnesota? Does anyone have any suggestions? I will be hunting public land and my walk in will be anywhere from 1/2 mile to a mile and a half. Thanks MNhuntingrube
Only you can come to the conclusion if Scentblocker is worth the money. I use it and has shown to be effective. You have to remember that there are many variables and that scent control is a system where corners cannot be cut. There will be many that tell you its a waste of time and money.....only you can come to that conclusion. One other thing, don't be discouraged by those that would tell that if you believe and /or experience these types of garments working , that you would also believe in Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny. One other side note...I was amazed at the effectiveness of Ozonics
Also, you can usually find pretty good deals if you look online. I would think right now would be a good time to find early season clothes for cheap. IMHO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't believe the hype in it but own some clothes from them. Got them on a good sale and are very well made garments. I just watch the wind when I hunt. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Don't waste your money and hunt the wind, much like scent sprays. I grew up around field trial dogs and deer have bigger noses so if they get down wind your done. You would help yourself more by smoking your clothes as a cover scent.
I use scent lok savanna for early season then use scent blocker for late season. Clothing just seems to work out that way for me with what I have. I really like them and they have heavy use and still hold up without fading
You can find some good deal on hunting clothing at your local sporting goods store right about now. I just picked up some new Scentblocker pants for $53.
I guess more of what I am asking is what will I need for a september october hunt. I know it isn't as cold as november but when you are sitting in a tree stand all day do you need more insulation then you would think?
I'm pretty much in the same boat as Slugger. I have a couple of scent lok suits I wear in the early season, and I have three Scent blocker suits I wear for mid season and late season. I don't buy into either companies claims that they make you scent free, but I think they do help somewhat. I do think both companies make a quality product, and that is the main reason I buy them. I also would never pay the full price that they ask in the stores. MNhuntingRube Robinson Outdoors has a "garage sale" every fall in Cannon Falls MN. You can get some really good deals there. 2 yrs ago I bought a brand new Dream Season suit top and pants for $200.00 would have been closer to $400.00 in a store. As far as needing more insulation for all day sits, the weather will pretty much dictate that.
I have a few Scent Blocker Early season Jackets....one Dream Season and two Bone Collector. They are made well...as far as working...I'm sure they do some. Where I live...its almost impossible to hunt the wind like some say. It swirls so much here...I don't pay attention to it much anymore. One minute its in my face...the next its at my back. I would look on Ebay...I got one of my Bone Collector jackets new for $39 off Cabelas.
Plan on layering, it can be a bit cold in the morning and at night but gets very warm during the day. Also look for some type of water resistant pants, you can get soaked from dew on your walk out in the morning. I went with a long sleeved camo tee and a light scentlok jacket then camo jeans and light water resistant camo pants to wear over the jeans.
I just use HS (Hunter's Specialties) products. . . Works fine for me! I use the HS laundry detergent to wash my clothes, fresh earth spray and I use the fresh earth wafers. I like the smell of fresh earth! But, I always pay attention to the wind too!
