I am fine on an 8 foot step ladder but higher I am not very good if I need to let go and work with my hands, especially over head!! Put a harness on me, so I am connected, and I am a whole different animal. Using my SOP harness with lineman's belt(rope) I can stand on the top step of my tree ladder no problem without holding on.....go figure!! We use safety lines so we are attached from ground to stand
sig239, it really is mainly a mental thing. We humans are ground dwellers, we don't belong up in trees, or at any kind of altitude for that matter. It's something we have to work at to become comfortable with. When I first started climbing trees for a living almost 40 years ago, I wasn't good with high climbs, but as time went on and I went up bigger trees, I became more comfy. Now I feel at home 80'-100' up. Repetition is key. You'll be fine.
