Which ever one YOU like better. Shoot both of them and the bow that fits you better is a better bow for you.

They are apples to oranges. That's not to say that one is better than the other, they are just different.

I owned a Switchback XT for a brief time... nice little bow.

I hear great things about the Assassin from those who've bought it.

Like has been stated, go find a shop that's got both and shoot them until you decide which one you like best. If one shop doesn't carry both brands, drive to a couple different shops... it's a big-enough investment that you shouldn't merely take anonymous posters' thoughts on the internet; do yourself a favor and make the effort to make up your own mind.

i understand they're are very different but preference aside, is there a significant difference in technology on the 5 year old SBXT verses a brand new bow tech

The biggest thing that would differentiate the two in my mind would be the strings that come on those two bows... most in the industry would classify BowTechs as some of the best that comes stock on a bow, while many would say the exact opposite of Mathews from that era.

I know when I ordered my XT, I also placed a simultaneous order for an aftermarket set of strings along with it. That and an aftermarket grip (from Tronjo).

But aside from the strings and the grip, it's a very solid bow; I enjoyed shooting it, as I have most Mathews I've owned or played with.

I have no personal experience with the Assassin, other than the myriad positive reports of owners across the forums I read.

Kewl! You also want to think about any service and support you might need if you plan on keeping the bow.

The Assassin is a nice bow No doubt but the SBXT was a proven Flagship bow over many years, kind of like the Allegiance. It was proven over time!

It boils down to what feels best for you and what price difference there is if any :)

I can't say one way or another on the SBXT because I haven't shot it. Just bought the Assassin 2 weeks ago and I can't say enough good things about it. I have heard that on Mathews that the draw length can't be adjusted so make sure it fits you well. I could be wrong about that though. Good luck on your decision.

The SBXT is a great bow but if I had your choice I would go with the Assassin.

Now I'm assuming this is your price range. I saw yesterday that my Gander Mountain has Diamond Iceman on clearance, bare bow for $550.

The SBXT is a great bow but if I had your choice I would go with the newer Assassin and a warantee.
