Looks like a lot of fun. Ive never been on a fishing or hunting trip and camped out. Id like to though. What tripods are you guys using in the last couple pictures?
The gopro was on a cheap Sony tripod and the other is a targus black pro, got it from Walmart for like 40 bucks. Came with a decent fluid head and works for our needs.
Thanks. Im looking into a decent tripod and head too. All i have now is a cheap tri pod from Walmart too. Id like to get a couple of the same heads for a tripod and camera arm, so then i can just remove the quick detach slide and move it where i need. That will take some cash though which i dont have right now since im jobless and in school.
Some recent cam shots, a few shots of my new Monster Raxx lick that i hope takes off and some shots of an afternoon we spent catfishing with some buddies: My girls with my pups:
Where do you hunt Jim? We too are in the northeastern part of the state. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well, day one was a roller coaster ride. Started off well, we got set up (a tad late, but while they were still in the trees). The birds were gobbling where they were supposed to, dead west. Then, a bird started going off to the north as well (A nice little surprise). A few hens were chiming in from both places as well (as to be expected). Then, a man and a boy came crunching through the woods. We whistled to stop them, they waved, and headed back the way they came. They were not supposed to be on the property, but with the birds on the roost, i didnt have time to chat. The birds flew down, west birds heading south in a valley (the boss Tom), north birds heading east on a ridge. We went for the south birds, did a stalk, and come up on them in the valley at about 70 yards, with some deer. The deer were skittish, and the gobbler was henned up. We decided to back off him and head for the north bird. We got to a ridge where we could see awhile and did some loud cutting. About 10 minutes later, as we sat there chatting, i caught movement. There was a gobbler strutting across the opposite ridge at about 200 yards. After getting some video, and watching him chase some uncooperative hens around in a field, we made our move. We slipped down into the valley, up the other side and set up what we thought was 100 yards or so from where he was....we were wrong. I did some soft clucking and he gobbled at 50, just over the rise on the ridge. A little more clucking and he was at 30, strutting behind some trees. He poked his head out, i lined up the crosshairs and fired. He shot up in the air, came down and started running off at an angle. Me and my buddy Matt unloaded our 870's and went on a foot pursuit. After about 100 yards he was gone. Adrenaline was pumping. What had went wrong? As we headed back to our shot locations, the culprit was found. I had center punched a 2" tree with my first shot, and Matt had hit one with his first shot as well. Just like in bowhunting, saplings has ruined out hunt...so we thought. My phone was lost, so me and my buddy Jimmy looked for it while Matt and Isaac (cameraman) checked for blood. Both was found. The tracking job was sparse, and video review showed that both me and Matt had hit him on the run (feathers a-flying!). We found a place where he flew off a ridge towards some thick pines. As we were combing them, i heard the words i so desperately wanted to hear....DEAD BIRD! He had crawled up under some brush and died trying to push through. High fives and "thanks the lords" were exchanged. He had shot all over his body, and the killing shot will never be known, but since it was my buddy Matt's first bird, he'll get the fan to keep at his house. We share everything else in life (friendship, same profession, same school, same workplace), why should hunting be any different? Even though is was Busch League and amateur, ill never forget this hunt. It was Matt's first bird after 3 years of hunting with me, The first hunt Isaac got to film utilizing his new equipment, my buddy Jimmy's first ever hunt (he was a tag along 4th man just learning the ropes). My 5th bird overall. Isaac and his new equipment, the video will take some time to get posted... Hope you boys enjoy! And good luck!
