I have been on this property before but never with the intention of scouting for bow hunting stand sites. So here I am walking up the trail to the farm field that I am planning on walking across to access the woods I am going to scout and notice two mature deer already in the field. Well, I figure I don’t want to scare them anyway and it would be nice to find out what access point they used to get in and out of the field if I watched long enough. Keep in mind it is 7:00pm and it gets dark at 9:00pm. So I decide to use some small hills (Kettles) to the side of the field to walk behind and climb to the top and watch them from there. Well I get comfy and realize I forgot my binoculars. DAMN!! I can’t even tell if they are bucks or does. Then more deer come out by them so I have some good access trails to check out next time I am there. So this was a productive scouting trip at this point and I am happy with what I have learned.

Now comes the cool part. Approximately 100 yards along the tree line I am sitting along a doe sticks her head out and comes out. I’m thinking, “Okay cool” I will get to watch her for awhile close up. Then I notice the grass bobbing in two places following her. What happens is her two fawns come out and start playing right out in front of me. They were chasing each other and even wrestled a little bit. It was really neat. Now I realized I forgot my camera!!!! Damn again! After the doe finished feeding she walked right in front of me at ~30 yards and one of her fawns came within 20 yards. I think they would have come closer but one of them spotted me because I was trying to keep the mosquitoes off of me.

Anyways, it was really neat watching those two very young fawns play like that. They didn’t seem to have a care in the world and were very relaxed.

nice, good 4 U. Now you have an insided on where they come out. That'll help w/stand placement.
