What scope would you recommend for this gun? It will likely be used for ranges under 60 yards but there is always the possibility of up to 100 yds.

Depends on what you want to spend. I really hate Japanese rifle scopes, so my suggestions will be American.

Some of the Japanese scope makers have fantastic glass in them and can be attractive when looking through them at a store, but the overall durability of the designs tends to lack in my experience. Their warranty and repair options also tend to lack, not something I'm comfortable settling with on a "lifetime" purchase. I'm guessing you won't want a top tier scope on this gun, so I didn't include those options.

    Top of the mid tier:

    Leupold VX3 1.75-6x32 - $399ish

    Bottom of the mid tier:

    Weaver Grand Slam 1.5-6x32 - $310ish

    Top of the bottom tier:

    Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 - $129ish

I have an AR in 6.8 SPC that is wearing the VX3 mentioned above. The scope is nothing short of fantastic, and is very light. I'm very happy with it.

Well, I have time to save some money LOL. I won't be using this until next year. Since it will be a "lifetime" purchase I think I'll focus on the VX3. My daughter showed some interest in hunting deer with a gun and my plan is for her to eventually use this too.

Matt, thanks very much for the info.

I just put the redfield 2-7/33mm on my 30-30. So far - so good. It's 1 for 1 and not "too much" for the gun I put it on. Redfield is owned by Leupold, now. So, the glass and warranty are top notch.

I am coveting one of those Savage bolt actions...

MOA from a slug gun, that's good to go.

There was a great write up in American Hunter a few months back Bruce, can see it I still have it in the "reading room", if so will see what they were using. Think another mag I have did a review also. Will let you know.
