Yes you can hunt the Mainside during school hours ( I do not). You have to qualify with your bow at the Game Check during specified hours. Good luck NOVA.

That is it man. I only did it once. I just enjoy hunting the backside of Quatico more as I can wander out greater distances, just hoping I do not see anyone else while I am in the woods.

Friday afternoon for me.....hopefully. Had a minor sight issue over the weekend, but my new pins should be in tomorrow, so I can get it sighted back in.

you can, actually TA 3 rocks! Right down Application Trail. Most of where we hunt is out the TBS side of the base...or out by Upshur the old OCS.

There are some great deer in TA 3, know folks who will take a day off work to hunt it. One of my Gunny's got a 10pt in there last year.

Heading out to set up camp tomorrow evening. Come Friday a.m. I'll be in the best, north-wnd stand that should give me a chance to fill the freezer once again.

Wife will be joining me Friday evening, she's after her first deer with a bow. I got a good feeling she'll be successful this year.

Best of luck to all, savor the moment b/c opening days are special. :D

That might sway me to try and hunt the Mainside. I hunted one TA on the mainside two years ago in late November. I set up in the dark based on the terrain. I hunted from the ground and I almost arrowed a doe at 8 yards as she ran past me. I also put an awesome stalk on a buck that was pushing does around in a thicket. I got within about 40 yards but could not close the deal as he moved off. Hmmmm. I also like the swamps down there by the Chopawamsic. I used to fish there a lot with my dad. I can really see a few good bucks being laid up in that swamp. That might be one of my off-season goals this winter, to find a good buck or two in that swamp.

Was hunting TA-3 in 2007 I believe. It had just converted from a gun area to a bow only area. I do not remember anything in the regs at the time that said I had to be seated in a stand to hunt that TA( even though there might have been)...it may have changed.

3 is just a plain old TA...

"Mainside" are the parking areas that are in housing, behind the PX, down the street from McD's etc. They are in a circle around the housing areas around base.

Cool! I bet if one found an area that funneled deer they could be in the money come the rut on the Mainside.

A great spot to look for is behind the death star ive stood duty there a few times and we have those night vision cameras there as you face the front of the bld from the main road there is a little grassy knoll to the left littered with deer. If u could set up in the tree line there that might be an awesome spot.
