So this was my third bear hunt and none of the previous were horrible. Buck Country Outfitters was a pleasant experience and exceeded expectations. There were about 20 hunters in camp. The lodge was very comfortable and the bear hunting great. If you are patient there is definitely a chance at a colossal bear. Brandon, one of the owners, made an effort to talk to all the hunters almost daily just to find out how they were doing and seemed very genuinely concerned about the hunters experience while there. The food was very good and plentiful. Below is a picture of the lodge. The guides are responsible for setting their bait sites and keeping them baited. They use oats, nuts, grease, icing and beaver in the baits and replenish them every few days. The guides are all very personable and easy to get along with. The picture below is a stand site that I sat that had a wonderful view. They have mixed bag of ladder and hang on stands. The max height I saw was about 15 feet and lowest was about 12 feet. I tagged out on day two with the below bear. The bear was a sow and I was a little disappointed with myself at first until we checked her teeth. From the below pics you can see she was rather mature and had not had cubs in sometime. She was definitely dry this year. She had a nice thick coat and a blocky head and I am very happy with the experience over all. If you plan on doing a spring bear hunt definitely consider Buck Country Outfitters. They are not the cheapest but by no means not the most expensive. They have lots of bears and the accommodations are outstanding.
Congratulations...did they give you any guess at her age? Sent from my XT1254 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Congrats man! Great Bear! Sounds like you had a great experience. She'll make a beautiful bear skin rug!
Brother. I was surprised at how well it did. I sharpened the heck out of them but the arrow blew through her and buried to the fletching into the dirt! She only made it 20 yards before topping over. Next test will be a whitetail this fall.
