I was told it promotes chronic wasting disease. Illegal in NY.

Have been making mineral licks for a couple of years now. usually put them on stumps, and the deer will eat the stump with the minerals. Salt is added to get the deer to eat it. Also been reading about CWD and don't want that to worry about in our population so right now have mixed feelings on it. Let me know if you'd like the recipe we use. About $40 will make 200 lbs of mix.

Is a salt lick block considered 'bait'?

In most states I believe anything put out for the deer to consume is considered bait. In CT it is, anyways. You have to check your local regs. They work well for me. I put out the liquid with a block in the middle and I have tons of does now, no bucks yet though.

We have used them for years for both cattle and really any other wildlife. Make sure there is water available (which right now, that is a scarcity in south texas). For deer, i would actually use some of the protein blocks (same goes, still need water because they include a lot of salt).

Not alot-but do any of you remember taking a salt tablet after football practice? Not the best practice these days-but any way to generize elrctolytes-such as magnesium and potasium has-as generated in some of these "salt licks" is not bad. Remember guys, i'm coming from south taxas, when its dry its hard on these animals nad they need th equivalant of what we need when we are dehydrated!

I poured some liquid molasses mixed with some salt and crushed acorn over a stump along with some Lucky Buck minerals. I am hoping the deer tear that stump and the area surrounding it up!!
