I thought a whole season was excessive as well. I was thinking anywhere from 6-8 games with 8 games being the most likely because it's half the regular season.
They were not told to cease certain behavior and chose to ignore the directive. Honestly if this were against the Pack I would be upset. That said with the litigation that is pending against the NFL a strong message needed to be sent, it was. I believe with the player suspensions and the coaches suspended the saints will struggle to be a 500 team
As a Falcon fan I would like to say it couldn't have happened to a better bunch...so sad for the AINTS..... As a football fan I think it's crazy, and like others said I was thinking 4 games or so.
This is the CRAZIEST thing I have read on here in a while. All of the hits of Favre were clean? You need to go back and watch the tape. They were BLATANT dirty hits below the knees. They would not have won the Super Bowl if the refs did not let them get away with such dirty plays.
Hit-list for career ending style hits and injuries for bonus $$bucks... Not how the game should be played no matter who's your fav team. They had to send a message. Just my 2 cents
So this is the hit that Viking fans have been whining about for 2 years? Correct? So Favre got hit high and low at the same time. It happens. Was it a penalty to hit QBs low at that time? I don't think it was. And McCray is not hitting Favre's knee with his helmet. He is making a sound tackle at the feet. 2 hands wrapped around the feet of Favre. 92 (forgot his name), is also not making a dirty hit. No helmet to helmet, no spearing in the chest, just straight up clean tackle. They just so happened to hit Favre at the same time. Don't you think it might be difficult to see if your teammate is tackling the QB in the middle of a game like that? I do. Stop whining Viking fans.
I think the punishment was excessive for the head coach as well as the franchise. They are also losing 2nd round draft picks in consecutive years.
YES it was...and McCray was fined by the league for this hit and another he made in the first quarter where Favre was not even involved in the play at the time of the hit. How about doing some research next time rather than just acting like you know what you are talking about?
Where is your proof of the 1-2 games for manslaughter? Ray Lewis? I know a couple years back Stallworth killed someone while driving drunk, and that got him a year. They are completely different. When it first came out I thought it was excessive, but after chewing on it awhile, I don't think it is. Goddell has no history of being "over board" with fines or penalty (imo) - and the fact Payton got a whole year tells me he deserved it, and there is something the general public doesn't know.
Bottom line... If the league warns you to stop doing something that is against the rules...you had better comply with their wishes...all the Saints had to do is listen to the first warning...they have no leg to stand on…lying to the commissioner made this penalty worse than it would have been otherwise
Nfl is a bunch of Pansy's. Y'all Yankees are a bunch of Pansy's. We might as well play flag football because y'all don't want the football players to get hurt. It's a part of the game, they know what they are doing when they get to the nfl. I'm guessing y'all never played football before because y'all would understand if y'all did. The facts say alot, the ride says it ALL.
Yeah the general public doesnt know that a few years back the commish tried to get the rights to every single "who dat" shirt sold. Well he didn't get those rights, and this is how he gets back at the saints. The facts say alot, the ride says it ALL.
Well Roger Goodell strongly believes in player safety so I can see why he suspended him. Not saying I agree but paying players to injure QBs and others is going completely against that. If anyone deserves a year suspension its Greg Williams. I think he's the guy that started it all. But if Roger is going to do this, he has to investigate rest of the league for bounties or anything to that extent. I know my Cowboys don't have a bounty system because they don't even want to tackle half the time.
Well when you have a 300lb+ guy(payed to injure players) starting to go for your legs, you can come on here and say they are "Pansy's". I don't mind big hits but getting payed extra to injure someone is crazy. I also think a lot of these guys played football, organized or backyard.
It's a part of the game. It happened in little league, high school, college and now the nfl. They new that was going to happen when they signed the contract. But for all y'all, I'll personally buy belts and flags for every team because tackling players is too rough now a days The facts say alot, the ride says it ALL.
They gave money to kids in little league to injure other kids??? Okay you go buy your belts and flags, go to the league office and tell the commish that he's a yankee and that the league is full of pansy's. GOOD LUCK.
In little league they give stickers, highschool they give grades, college they give money and gifts. But yes, if you played football you would know, the coach alway told you to hit the other guy as hard as you can, coach always told you to take him out if you have too. You do what you have to do to win, in any sport. The facts say alot, the ride says it ALL.
