The length of strap that goes to the tree on my harness is short and makes turning around dang near impossible without playing the limbo. I thought about putting a long loop of rope in there and attaching the rope to the tree. Any other suggestions?

Which safety harness are you using?

Thats basically what I do. I don't have the strap that goes around the tree, so I just use a rope. I tie it off good, and have a tag end with a carabiner on the end. Just clip it to the strap off your harness and your good to go

Exactly what I did as well made a double loop and tied it - then tag tied it and taped the joint so it can never fail.
Add 10 inches or so made all the difference.

Either buy a rope from Summit that has the prussic knot setup in it or make your own. This setup is by far the best way to go. Easily adjustable and quick.

Yup this is my next step as well. I want more flexibility. Prusik is the way to go.

Use the rope as people have said it gives you more room to turn.

what kind of rope are you guys using???? most likely it is not rated for a fall unless you are using repelling rope. using an average rope is a bad idea and a good way to kill yourself!!! the loger the rope the more energy perduced from the fall. and averege fall from a harness and a 6' lanyard will produce 5000lb of energy. most rope is not rated for that

I use API full body and also use rope, two pieces ..one to lengthen my lanyard, just a bit, another to tie around the tree
The rope I'm using is climbing rope

I am thinking of using a length of paracord as an extension. Will be three strands braided to give me about 1500 lbs of strength.
    comments - thoughts?

I would buy climbing rope but everyone wants to sell me 100 feet - I need 10!

no one seems to want to believe me when i say a fall from a harness can potentially produce 5000lb+ of energy thus making your 1500lb rope useless. do some research befor you buy
