I'm looking at a treestand that comes with a fas safety harness. Will that work or do I need something tma certified?

All TMA stands come with a full body harness these days. I would strongly suggest staying with a TMA stand as they have an independent lab test and approve all certified stands. A tree stand that takes you to heights that can kill you is NOT something I would suggest going generic on.

If money is a major concern, get a cheaper TMA stand. At least then you know what you are getting. Just my 2 cents.

From my understanding the safety harness that comes with your stand should be TMA certified as long as the stand is as well.

Well I'm looking at a treestand that is sportsmansguide.com's brand. No where in the description does it say it or the harness are tma certified. It just says includes fas harness. And it probably has 20-25 reviews all saying how great it is.

I've never had any issues with safety harnesses that have come with any one of 3 or 4 different brands of treestands. I used an AmeriStep harness last year and this year I bought a Muddy harness. I am curious to see how the muddy stacks up.

If the stand wasn't TMA approved then I personally would stay away from it. Just my opinion. But the safety harness that comes with the stand will work, but I found those harnesses to be a pain to use which is why I too plan to buy a Muddy before this season.

Phillip is right. IMO. Why would you want to skimp on something so critical to your hunt and your safety?

My guess is after using whatever harness that comes with the stand you will want to buy a Hunter’s Safety System (my personal favorite) or equivalent anyway. As Phillip said, the stock harnesses are a MAJOR pain. However, they do work.

I was so sick of the thing that came with my Viper I swore I would not use it anymore and was buying one before this season.

I tried putting that thing one once and didn't even get it on all the way before I gave up.

I figured if I struggled with it that much in broad daylight how am I going to be able to do it in the dark?

Every safety harness that I have seen that has come with a stand is hard to get on and confusing. If you are looking for easy and safety look at the Muddy Outdoor harness.
