Thinking about making my own. Wondering if anyone has done this and can recommend the best type of rope. Ive looked online and the cheapest I can find is about a $1 a ft. Lowes and Walmart have some rope 1/2" over 350lb working load. Fully braided for under 20$ for 75-100ft. Don't know if it work well enough. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Stay clear of anything in Walmart or lowes.

You doing to want a good static climbing rope from a arbor supply or a place like EMS. 11mm for the main line an like 7mm for the prusst knot..

My stepfather made a few for me and when I seen the cost and effort it would have been about a break even comparable to the premade lines. All total I have about 10 lines made up.

Thanks trial. That's why I was looking to make my own because of the cost. I need about 5.
Is static line stiffer is that what makes it better to use.

I bought rope at menards and made my own. I'm only 150 lbs so I'm not too worried about it breaking. If I weighed 200+ id prolly just buy the lifeline.

Did some figuring the past couple weeks and couldn't get the price low enough to justify building my own. Ended up getting a 3 pack from Bass Pro. I put it in my cart last night while I was waiting to hear from HSS to see if I could get a Promo code. HSS offered me free shipping at $100 for them. BP emailed me 20% off over a $100, it came to $90 to my door. Thanks for the help Y'all
This is the code for BP if anyone is interested 2IFI7K.

To me it would be kind of outdated and hardly economical. Kind of like building your own tree stands out of wood or with a 110 welder. I figure at least if the certified rope breaks and something happens, you can fall back on the manufacturer of said certified safety equipment.

The only rope I would even consider making them from would be actual climbing rope. By the time you add in the snap rings and all it's just as cheap or cheaper to find the lifelines on sale. Several different manufacturers of them these days.
