Another vote for HHA! I have been using them for years. The Lifelines are must too in my book. Best Safety Harness on the Market!
HSS for me. currently the ultra light. The spider to me does just that, it crawls down your legs between standing and sitting.
HSS here as well. Just makes sense to buy a harness from a company that only makes tree safety equipment. All their time and energy is put into harnesses, lifelines, straps, etc. Comfortable and reliable
Virtually every comment posted so far was about how light, comfortable, easy etc. Not one mentioned how it felt when actually hanging from a 4 point harness. Most 4 point harnesses come with a suspension trauma strap because 4 point style harnesses can cause suspension trauma after ten minutes of hanging. If you get knocked out from the fall, or black out causing the fall, the harness may kill you. Think about this. When hanging from the dorsal area it tips the hunter forward. This puts 90% of the persons weight in the groin area directly over the femoral artery. It also makes it darn near impossible to reach the tether to pull yourself back up. I suggest you try hanging from a rock climbing harness, then a 4 point harness and see for yourself which one is more comfortable and easiest to manipulate in a fall. The rock climber attaches in the front just above the navel. When you hang, it pulls the leg straps away from the femoral artery. It is much like sitting in a park swing with a sling seat. You can easily reach the rope as it is in front of you. According to HSS 86% of the accidents happen while climbing up and down the tree. Tree arborist, mountain climbers, rock climbers, zip lines all use this style as the user needs to be able to do a self rescue. 4 point harnesses are osha approved to use on work sites where there are other workers available to help rescue. There are many manufacturers of rock climbing harnesses. After a lot of research, trial and error this is what I'm currently using. Black Diamond Vario Speed Harness. About $50 one size fits up to about a 45" waist. Think about this please and give it a try. At least first hang from your current harness to see what it feels like when hanging. Then imagine the pain from the sudden stop after a 2 foot fall. Your life may depend on it. Why believe what the manufacturers are saying. After all they are selling 4 point harnesses, equipped with suspension trauma relief belts. weight 15.8 oz and easier to put on. http://blackdiamondequipment.com/en/climbing-harnesses/vario-speed-harness-BD6500720000ALL1.html
Putting them on is one thing, try hanging from them before forming an opinion as it is likely to change.
Before the season starts, please try hanging from your harness. The love affair may end up in a separation. Compare hanging from your harness to any rock climbing harness. Your life may depend on it. This is how a rock climbing harness holds you up at 40mph. Rock climbing, zip line, tree workers all use this style connecting in the front.
None of them have to draw a bow. I could wear a 5 pt harness in my car but I don't, even though racecar drivers, jet fighter pilots and astronauts do.
Fitz: If you ever tried a rock climber properly, you would never make that comment. It attaches to the tree behind you when sitting. It goes down the tree and under your arm. Worn properly, it will never get in the way period. There is way less harness to be concerned with in a rock climber than a 4 point. Mine infact only weighs 15 oz. Why compare it to a race car harness?
I wasn't comparing a rock climbing harness to a 4 pt. I was saying that you comparing a HSS harness or others to a rock climbing harness is like comparing a regular seatbelt to a 4 pt harness. In other words, I don't think it's necessary to wear such a harness in my hunting applications just like I don't think a 4 pt belt in my car would be necessary. ... and I have been rock climbing before, so I know how the harnesses work.
Not picking a fight. You are actually backwards on this. A rock climbing harness has less points of contact and containment. So wearing a hss harness is like wearing a four point harness and a rock climber is a seat belt. I have wanted to try a rock climber, because if you did fall, it would have the rope in front of you. You would be able to maneuver better after the fall. Plus it doesn't go up over your shoulders and you could wear it under your pants. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For me I like HSS. I like the pockets in the vests that they offer. I personally use the Pro Series model. Sent from my KFTT using Tapatalk 2
Pockets and vest do not save lives. Safety harnesses are supposed to save lives. If the comfortable harness came with a suspension trauma relief belt, it is because it is possible for that harness to cause suspension trauma. Suspension trauma can kill. Guys you owe it to yourself to try hanging for a few minutes if you can. It just may change your mind about the comfortable pockets.
