well today my dad signed the final papers for the land. this sucks! my brother talked with the new owner and he was nice about it but he said we can't hunt it anymore. still haven't figured out where i'm going to bow or gun hunt now, possibly with my friend and his dad for bow, but nothing confirmed yet. still hoping to maybe buy some land of my own but i'll have to wait and see if it can happen. i'm so sick right now, sorry about complaining but i need to vent a little

That really sucks. I can only imagine how that must feel and I hope you get something figured out quickly.

That sucks. Be grateful you had it while you did. Tons of public land out there

Is there a story behind the sale of the land?

well basically my grandparents worked 2-3 jobs each, and very hard and long to buy this place and build a house on it. it was recreational land for them and retirement land for their future. when i was appox 8 they tore that house down and built a better and bigger one. it was their intentions that this property stay in the family forever. by the time both my grandparents had passed on, the land was completely paid for, not in any forrestration, and they left my father all of it and money to pay for taxes and upkeep. i love my father but after that basically he f'd everything up, with at best, poor money management. he got way in debt and continued to go more into debt. he cut alot of the harvestable trees to get some money but it didn't last long. then he got hurt and couldn't work, so there was no chance of catching up not that there really was even without getting hurt. and that's basically it. some guy came along looking to buy up land insted of investing in the stock market, and it got sold. end of story

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, proper estate planning can hurt some feelings but in some cases is necessary to ensure that ones plans are carried out.

And all you can hope for is that the new owners are starting out with the same great intentions your grand parents had, and as a young man you to still have the opportunity to start saving to buy that special place of your own.
    Good luck, Jim

May I suggest trying the Kettles? There is a lot of deer there and a close drive from West Bend. I could suggest a few spots that might get you started.

It's a tough place to be in. Our family farm was for sale a few years ago, and actually got sold in a kind of shady deal (it's a LONG story). I figured it was more or less a done deal, and thought my hunting there was done. Things ended up working out though, and for now the land is still ours.

Best of luck on finding new land to hunt, and don't overlook some good public land options.
