Today is a somber day across our state, we lay to rest a fellow Law Enforcement Officer. However sad today is, it's also a day of rejoicing and remembering a great father, husband, friend, and peace officer.

To the city of Mendota Heights, their police department, and family of Officer Scott Patrick. We love you, we support you, we wish you the power to heal, and we as a state share in your loss.

Being at the funeral was one of the most sobering and awe inspiring experiences I have ever had. 4,000 police officers for not only minnesota, but across the nation, from places like Alaska, Vermont, and Texas. Included in this is a funeral processional with 1200+ squad cars.

The life of a peace officer is a calling and some wonder why we answer it. I'll share with you why I and so many people do. It's because we love our public, we love serving, we love being a voice for those without one, and you will not find bigger hearts hiding under "tough" exteriors anywhere.

I'm honored to be a small part of this family.

Firefighter and Police Officers have one thing in common - a large family. Either blood or just one sharing the same passion. You get into either and you will have more than you ever had before.

I was part of a LODD funeral for a fellow brother in the fire service. It was chilling, but yet amazing. It is one thing I will never, ever forget. The man was a hero - and the support that he had from all over was astonishing.

To you and his entire family I hope you find peace knowing that you have thousands supporting you.
This is the family you should be honored to be in. A family that is always there.
