Chris Cornell Died (lead singer from soundgarden/audioslave) http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/18/entertainment/chris-cornell-dead/index.html
Arguably the best rock vocalist of that era. I was a huge fan. Was planning on seeing him here in St. Louis this summer. ☹️ Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
What a shame. The hard life of a musician on the road claims another. His cover of Prince's; Nothing Compares To You, is a favorite of mine. Peace to his family.
As much as I thought I was going to be a rockstar, I'm glad I didn't make it in the big time back in the early 90s, because some of them are dead. Kurt cobain Layne staley Scott Weiland Chris Cornell Shannon Hoon Bradley Nowell Peter Steele But Eddie Vedder is still alive, don't know how after all the rafter rigging climbing he did in the early 90s... My favorite era of rock n roll. Cornell was one of the final gods left from that era. Suicide? Thats unfortunate. Real unfortunate. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
That's too bad - seems like Chris was one of the guys you didn't hear too much about being an addict or causing a lot of drama out of the group listed above. If suicide is really what happened it's yet more proof that depression knows no bounds. Crazy to think someone can be on a stage with thousands of people cheering for them and just hours later want to end their own life. RIP. Black Hole Sun will forever be one of the greatest music videos ever made.
One of the greats. It's unfortunate that these stories from that era all seem to have a similar ending.
So often we see so many musicians touring when they are old and should be enjoying life and spending all the money they have made. They will say they do it because they love it so much but I don't think that is the truth. I think they don't have anything else. When they become music stars they end up isolated. They are playing with a small select few in the band, and touring with a small crew of people and once that stops or slows down they can't handle it.
Very well said. You're exactly right about depression knowing no bounds. Mental health issues are real, and 46% of humans have a mental health disorder at one point or another in their life. Women are diagnosed with them more than men, but that fact has an asterisk next to it. How many men on here can say that they would go see a psychiatrist because their wife would not let them express their feelings? or were feeling a little down in the dumps for longer than two weeks? Hardly any man would do that. And there lies the problem. Because it's not the manly thing to do. men are taught from birth to be strong, and not to cry. Hold all your feelings in, and repress them. Who knows if Chris was seeing a psychiatrist or not, but could you imagine him saying to his bandmates, guys I'm depressed. Highly doubt it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't have stats, but it appears to me, that more and more mental disorders have been created and more and more people are seeking help, yet it seems like at the same time more and more suicides or other incidents are being blamed on mental health as well. I truly feel we as a society are no longer learning to deal with our "conditions" and unless we medicate we don't know how to cope. Can really see it in the school systems, they are throwing meds at kids to keep them under control.
Sorry didn't mean to throw stats....lol I agree with you, many Dr's are prescribing meds rather than treating the problem through counseling and therapy.
He was a drinker/pill popper. Struggled for years but it was always low key. Like mentioned he was never one to cause a scene or any drama Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sad stuff. I heard he had been sober and doing well for the past few years. Heard on the news today a fan at the show said the show was awesome but Cornell seemed to be a little off last night. I was just rocking some Soundgarden in the office the other day. He was an awesome front man.
