Had a co-worker who wanted a cam built to try out homebrews after seeing some of my photos. I decided to go with a simple S40 Fast Hack. Now that Snapshot Sniper has the fast hack program included into their BF boards, it's a much better build than the original Yeti board. Decided to go with a dipped Timber Ghost case instead of doing 3D camo. This was my first time doing a dipped case build, and as such, my first time recessing the glass into the case, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Should be a simple, compact cam for him.
Looks great. Didn't realize Snapshot had that board, thanks for the info. Blessings..........Pastorjim Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
How hard is it to build one. not to sound mean but isnt it easier to just go pick up a covert? I could see this being a hobby too I guess. looks good
Well that's pretty neat! I've heard bout homebrews but had no clue what they were, looks like some tech work.
When the idea of homebrews came into existence it was because many of the commercial cams of that time were so unreliable. That has now changed. But one thing that hasn't changed is the quality of the pics from the homebrews, they are simply the best. That's the reason I got into them. Now having said that, you are right, it does become a hobby. I mean it's pretty gratifying to get a pic of an animal with a unit that you built yourself. One of the advantages of the commercial cams is they can usually build alot more features into their units than you can a homebrew. But if your goal is just flat out magazine cover quality photos, then you will enjoy a homebrew. Blessings........Pastorjim Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Nice build! - that bigfoot fasthack board is much more forgiving since you don't have to worry about remember to make sure the screen is turned off and you can camera settings easier...it is also seems a touch faster than the yeti - of course I love my s40 fast hack with yeti as much or more than the s600 with the bigfoot....the s40 is a great scouting camera with good battery life to.
Matt...how much would it cost me to become a coworker? Ive always wanted a homebrew..but i am not a technical guy. You can PM if need be...
Thanks, guys. In all honesty, to build a white flash cam (like this one), it's not really difficult as long as you have decent eye sight and can solder. There are TONS of different builds that are widely documented on AT and Hagshouse. Everything from whiteflash camera, IR, video, black flash, IR night/color day, slave flash builds, etc. That's technically the advantage to homebrews over, say, a Covert. That, and if a repair is necessary, it's a DIY fix, and usually pretty simple. Plus, if you don't know what the problem is, there are GREAT resources of people out there who do. Covert still seems to have a great thing going as far as commercial cams are concerned, and one of the few brands I would even consider purchasing. Ben and Caleb, I'm more than willing to do a build for you guys if you can give me about a month to finish my bathroom:D I had to juggle that and this build over the past few weeks and I felt bad for taking so long to build it, and I don't want to do the same with you guys. Prices are very dependent on cameras used. The build above, I have ~$119.00 into it all said and done. It was a little more doing a dipped case as opposed to a black case with 3D camo.
Matt...ill get ahold of you in a month and well talk...i need one homebrew in my stable. Have fun with your bathroom!
Blacks cool with me brother. Pray we get more snow to plow either before my next surgery or two weeks after.
