This came up yesterday with some friends. Do younger bucks start chasing earlier? Or would it be the other way around?

My answer to this question is yes, but the only reason i say this is because year after year in my neck of the woods i see younger deer chasing before anything else. On the other hand, I do not see that many mature bucks until the rut is in full swing. this may be due to the fact that the bigger bucks stay on a neihboring property until they move in for the rut. im not sure if this helps at all, but this has been my experience in the woods.

In my limited experience i would say yes as well - always see the young bucks chasing first in my area

Ok that's what I thought.....with that being said the rut is not in Full swing here, yet! Worst part.....our season closed Saturday. All young small deer chasing all last week.

Yup the youngsters get all excited a little early and the big boys know when to make their move...Experience matters :)

You are in NC? What part? The Rut in coastal SC is in October. In Central Alabama it isn't until January. The timing varies around the country. Hope your season didn't close before you could seal the deal?

Yeah its been really weird here as well. (Central Alabama) I have a feeling its going to be really cold here if it ever does turn cold. Probably will be after January when I want to turn back to Bass fishing.
