beings this is my first year hunting deer in a long time 10yrs and before i never paid attention to it. how can you tell when the rut starts ? and when does it usually start in central/ north central illinois? thanks in advance Ken
BB, If I had to pick 10 days to be in the timber to catch the rut I believe I would go with 5 through 15 Nov although a few days befpre and after that will be good also but I would say those would be prime! Just my 10 cents worth.
Some ol' bucks always say that the best all around day to be in a stand whitetail hunting during the rut is Nov. 2nd-just what I have heard. I feel that it is time spent, time spent! Get in a treestand and be observant! You will know when things begin to get cranked up when scrapes and rubs start coming around! Good luck.
thats the night of the second full moon of the fall equnox ..i here its a great day to be in a stand as well....last week of oct through the first few weeks of nov
According to Field & Stream, Nov 2 will be the start of the seek/chase phase...supposedly Nov 11th will be the best day. But thats just they're opinion....Like most others said, first 2 weeks in Nov are typically pretty awesome. Here's some more predicted "Best days to hunt" according to Field & Stream, Outdoor Life and Deer & Deer Hunting.
