I have two good pairs of shoes. One pair of Brooks Glycerin and one pair of Asics GT-2000. I bought the Brooks at the Navy Exchange on my own. I bought the Asics at Fleet Feet after having them check my impact. Funny thing is, with the exception of the Brooks being a size 10 and the Asics being a size 11, the support and cushioning are almost identical. Fleet Feet said that running shoes should be around a full size bigger than normal to allow for swelling on longer runs. I figure the Brooks will be fine for shorter runs. I may end up getting another pair of Asics when I manage to graduate to consistent longer runs.
Yeah, I knew better than to do that. I believe that my problem is just getting the tendons in my 50 year old knees toughened up. My left knee was giving me fits but it's fine now. The right knee is now giving me the same problem. If it follows the same pattern I should be past this in a few days.
Stretching good before and after? (Sorry for the dumb question, not trying to make it like you don't know what you are doing)
Actually, that's not a dumb question at all. I am stretching, but I'm not stretching good like I used to. I guess I probably should put more effort into that since I'm older.
Also the treadmill does all the forward thrusting for you. You are basically hopping in place Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just ran 3.2 miles again in the mist and rain! 9:51 10:11 10:13 31:20 total for 3.2! felt good today, felt like i could have kept going which is a great feeling! Definately need to get a good pair of sneakers though. I'm running on some $40 nikes....LOL!!!! side note, for the heck of it i weighed myself yesterday 16 pounds gone since i started almost 4 weeks ago, weighed myself today to see if was just a good day, but it still says 15 pounds lighter!!! Awesome feeling
3.8 miles today!!! Ran with the bulls! 5k time was 31:12, not bad considering I ate like a moose yesterday at my cookout, 1 burger, 2 bratwurst, 2 cups of chili 2 cups of fish chowder and numerous cupcakes..... Lmao!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Any of you fellows ever run a day or two after donating blood? Yesterday at work at St. Jude an e-mail was sent out saying that they desperately needed platelet donors. I called and set up an appointment for 9:00 am today. If you've never donated platelets, you'd have to see the size of that needle to appreciate it. Good Lord! It looks like a coffee stirring stick! Anyway, they asked if I wanted to donate whole blood at the end and without thinking about what I'm doing right now I said "Sure!" It didn't dawn on me until after I was finished what I'd done. Oh well, I'll be out running Saturday morning regardless. I was just wondering how it would affect me. I'm expecting to feel tired earlier in the run.
That's awesome! You're doing a heck of a lot better than I am right now. My right knee is still keeping me from doing well. My left ankle is hurting from the run yesterday, but I believe that's because I was having to compensate for the right knee pain. It was raining lightly when we parked the car at the gym yesterday, but just as we got out it stopped and the wind totally died. It was muggy, hot and it felt like I was running in a sauna. I didn't do very well.
I fell and destroyed my foot and knee two weeks ago and can't seem to get it healed up. Tried playing basketball last night which was a mistake... Still hurts to even walk. Hopefully it heals up in the next week or two so I can get back on track with the training. Hope to do a 10k by the end of June. This is my foot as of last night day 13.
Fell down about 15 stairs leading to a wooden pier and ended up in the ocean when it was all said and done. May or may not have been slightly intoxicated. LOL The funny part is my knee looks even worse.
Dude, that sucks! That wound is in a bad location when it comes to being able to heal because of the constant flexing, but you know that already. The knee probably isn't doing much better for the same reason. What are you dressing the wounds with?
Been avoiding dressings as much as possible to let them scab up. When wearing tennis shoes I'll throw on a nonstick gauze pad to keep the sock from sticking to it. I'm fully convinced it will be a month longer before they are new skin at this point. Once the pain of walking leaves I'll be okay though.
I'm no doctor, but I think you might be making a mistake by not keeping it dressed. If it were me I'd keep it coated in Neosporin or something like that, covered and wrapped. It won't scab over, but the pain would be much more bearable and it won't be subjected to the constant re-wounding of having the scab tear off when it flexes. If you like, I could show this pic and a pic of your knee if you post it to one of the nurses where I work and get her opinion. This lady is a certified wound care nurse and she knows her stuff. She most likely knows more about treating that wound in that location than most people's doctors.
I kept it wrapped in triple antibiotic and dressings the first week but there isn't much point in it once you get past the initial threat of infection (started oral antibiotics when I returned from the beach). Just tired of fooling w it now to be honest
