I had this gun on order for over half a year. I grew tired of waiting on it so I went and bought it somewhere else as it had yet to show up (the shop had that many of them on order)... I am having issues with accuracy thus far from the extremely long trigger pull on the pistol. I am hoping that my accuracy goes up with more rounds through the gun though as I only have around 40 rounds through it. On my crisper shots and follow throughs I am pretty close, plenty accurate... I am just struggling to repeat it consistently. I was shooting from 25 feet. So my question, do you have any accuracy problems with the LCP? I understand it is a small gun and not as inherently easy to shoot accurately as a larger pistol. Just looking for some feedback.
I'm interested in the comments to this... Because I have the Ruger LCP .380 on the Top of the "Next thing to buy that I really don't need" list. Why did it take so long to get? I see them relatively common around here...
The shop I ordered it from, their price was $290 on it. Everywhere else around here it is $350.... I was like number 60 something on the waiting list. I knew I didn't need it right away so I thought I wouldn't mind waiting a month or two, but that turned into 6+ months... I got tired of waiting
Buckeye, I shot around 60-80 shots through mine before I felt more comfortable. I was only shooting from about 20 feet, but I did experience the accuracy issues just like you. I had to grip that gun just right, squeeze the trigger, maintain constant focus. You might have to get the clip extension in order to get a better grip on the gun, thereby decreasing some of the torque on the shot. On the other hand, I grabbed my buddy's larger 40 cal and started hammering home the shots, no problem. So it IS the physical design of the gun, being that it is smaller. Shoot about 40 more rounds through it and see where you are at in terms of accuracy. I plan on going to the shooting range on Tuesday to fire about 40 rounds myself. I will report back right away so my memories will be fresh.
I was going to get the LCP - until they came out with the LCR, and for some reason I am coveting a wheel gun despite being a auto loader die hard... Friends have the LCP - not many are worried about the accuracy, its a 7 yds and in weapon with a point to aim employment. Might want to try some different ammo to see if it has a preference... Is .380 still a bear to get?
I can get you good ammo scott, let me know My qualm with these was answered by my friend adam, who came to the same realization i did. A .380 out of a 2.75" barrel is well below 150 ft lbs of energy at 3 ft. alot of ammo (like the american eagle stuff) is well below 100. now that is at 3 feet! it drops significantly thereafter! So buy the best ammo you can, i would describe it as a LAST last resort sidearm. Good ammo includes Fedral Hydrashock. hornady critical defense magtech JHP And magsafes
Thanks man... I am going to put a few more boxes of FMJ's through it before I buy any personal defense rounds... I want to have a good feel for it before I drop the coin on the PD rounds. This LCP is strictly for CC for me. I have other side arms for home protection or if I am traveling through a bad neighborhood etc.
I've got about 50 rds of Winchester jacketed through mine and it seemed like the more I shot it the better it (I) shot. I haven't shot any of my Speer Gold Dot Personal Protection hollow points yet so I can't comment on them. To be honest, the factory sight is less than desierable so I'm in the process of buying a Crimson Trace laser for it so that should help with accuracy too. BTW Scott, my local dealer had (may still) 100 round boxes of Winchester for $40.00 a box.
Thanks for the heads up... BTW, the other day I called Rattle Snake HIll (I think you remember them?) and asked if they had any .380 ammo.... He laughed and said, "You aren't being serious are you?".... I did find the American Eagle at Slugmasters though... Nothing at Gander or Diicks... I have one more shop I can check this week, Stockers.
Yes, I remember them... I know of two shops around here that have (or had) the 100 packs of Winchester. I belive one gets $40.00 and the other gets $45.00.
to increase stability and accuracy try putting a section of bicycle tube tire over the grip. works wonders, i would practice with the gun at the hip at about 10 feet. empty the mag once you get comfortable with it. (I say that cause muzzle climb is a dangerous thing) The speers actually held up pretty well outta a longer barrel gun, but out of the little Mag research we were shooting (similar) we couldnt get them to mushroom fully!
I can't speak for the LCP, but I can say that ammuntion made an incredible difference in my M&P. When I went from Wolf brand FMJ's to the Hornady +P JHP's... it was nuts how much better it shot. Worth a shot anyway.
Those M&P's are my latest bragging gun in the mid price range man. They are fantastically accurate and reliable, have a great trigger and fit the hand well! Have you tried (assuming .40 cal) 180 grain federal Hydrashocks?
I have an LCP with a Crimson Trace laser on it. I carry it in a Nemesis pocket holster, loaded with 90gr Gold Dots. Great little shooter.
I'm pretty sure this exact gun has a lot to do as to why .380 is so hard to get. They have sold so many of these guns because of their size and pricepoint. There are waiting lists here still.
