Any of you guys seen an rubs or scrapes yet. Noticed a scrape yesterday when I went out for an evening hunt and thats the first one I have seen so far.
Opening weekend of Wisconsin's season, Sept 18, I found over 20 rubs and one scrape, earliest I've ever seen them. Not sure if its a coincidence or not but its also the first time I used mock scrapes through the summer.
Wierd down south of ya............ Southern Georgia, I have seen multiple scrapes and an awsome amount of rubs this last 10 days.. Every day new ones are popping up in my woods... A little early, but are all over..
What do you guys think about hunting rub lines and scrapes? Here in Nw Pa there are a lot of hardwoods with old logging roads on them and thats where the scrapes and rubs are showing up. Would you guys hunt these areas?
I always hunt rub lines and scrapes... I found a scrape that was NOT there when I left after the morning hunt, but when I returned to the stand for the afternoon hunt, the scrape had been made during my lunch... Camera pictures have shown that the buck has returned 6 different times in 3 days just walking by sniffing it.. I love finding fresh scrapes and rubs.. Lets you know that someone is marking their terratory... I wanna catch them cruzing thru..
As others said...had them in WI opening weekend (9/17). This is not uncommon of the property I hunt. There is a very close to 1-1 ratio of bucks to does (thank you earn-a-buck!!) so they are typically very active. For IL, I found a few rubs and one scrape this past weekend, which is a little early for this area, but the temps have been seasonably cool until this week.
I saw a couple scrapes this morning in east central wisconsin. I like hunting the down wind side of a scrape line 40-60 yards off of it. The mature deer seem to cruise parallel on the downwind side of these scrapes checking for fresh sent.
2.5 weeks ago I found 3 freshly made scrapes and one baseball size rub. Since that day none of these scrapes have been hit. I put out 5 mock scrapes that same time, a few of my mocks are getting hit.
I put my cam where there is a scrape every year and on Sept. 9th they started making a scrape there again this year. They have been hitting the licking branch all summer long tho. What is really weird is all the fighting I have had on my cams. Every night have bucks on there fighting. Have bucks with busted horns already also. I get close to ten different bucks hitting a scrape in one evening, have had 35 different bucks hit the same scrape.
That's fricking Insane!! I don't see that many different bucks period In 4 to 5 years of hunting. No wonder you have broken racks already, competition Is huge with all the bucks.
rubs and scrapes I have one deer stand thats been in the same spot now three years, every year produced a buck. However this spot is not very active, typically I might see a doe every day, but I see a nice buck about twice a week. There are no signs of rubs, or scrapes this year in that area. Two days ago however , I saw three bucks all traveling toghether in that area, too brushy to get shot, but I have another stand that is on a field line, and theres tons of rubs and one small scrape. Just wondering should I bounce back and forth, or stick with the one where i seen the buck? I've only sat in the field line stand today, seen three does this morning.
