OK guys, it looks like our family member who hunts here on occasion did actually kill the deer he shot at the other week. We (my brother and I) found it today. Apparently the deer didn't run in the direction he he he did thus the reason we never found blood. Apparently he wasn't standing where he thought he was when he shot either.

Anyways, this thing is rancid and i mean bad!! We thought we smelled something once or twice yesterday but, thought nothing of it until today. We found it by following the smell. Coyotes have gotten ahold of it but, only took the back half. The rest is still there from the rib cage up. I really don't want to move this thing because I know I won't be able to hold my food down. We haven't seen a deer since 3 days ago and this is a major deecorridoror on our small property. We found a huge rub that is really fresh about 10yd from the carcase and we want to get rid of this smell if nothing else so we can hunt down wind of it with out losing our past weeknutritionon.

I was thinking a bag of lime might just do the trick if I can get that close to it anyways.

Will lime work or do I need to do something else?

I don't know about the lime. I may just try tying a long rope to it and dragging it. It may be the coyote presence that is keeping the deer out. But if I had a guest, family member or not, who shot a deer and couldn't even figure out where he took the shot from or which way the deer ran, that person might not be invited back.

That's a shame, for the bold.. 2 words, Trail Tape. He should have marked where he was sitting, mark where saw it run, then pursue and mark bloods to stay on the trail (if unsure of the area or where you saw it etc).

Not really sure about how to get rid of the smell (if don't wanna bag it or such), but that sure would make sense for not seeing anything for a few days. One thing can do is get yote hunting.

Kind of having a similar situation, which is why leaning towards some other spots we just recently got permission to hunt on but haven't really been to. The spot we mostly bow hunt has another guy my dad knows, who also goes with a shotgun during the control hunt. The guy never learns, uses buckshot for first round and rest after slugs. 2 does injured which I'm sure died, been hearing coyotes for past 2 weekends. Last weekend was because a buck was hit by a car, and now there's a dead doe from another car in the gutter from mid-week, they haven't found it yet. Haven't had any chances at the yotes yet but saw fresh crap this morning from them, and no deer movement..

I'm going to try the lime first then if I have too, I will drag i off somewhere. Maybe even borrow a bob cat from the neighbor to burry it. I would imagin the smell will hang around for a while in that spot.

The guy is getting older and had a hunting accident about 8 years ago, he fell out of a tree stand. Almost died. He has been hunting here for over 15 years and may hunt 5 or 6 times a season if that. Last year he hunted here once. I don't like the fact that he shot the deer and didn't find it but, I can't bring myself to keeping him from hunting. I will look harder for it next time. I was sure he didn't hit the deer as we couldn't find blood anywhere and it was a shot at 15yd with a 30-30. I could tell where he shot it and it was high which would maybe explain why there was no blood at first.

The mobsters used lime to dispose of bodies it should work for a deer.

It is yotes that are keeping the deer gone. I have had a dead deer that was wounded and then I found it 5 days later from some other hunters that told me they lost one. I drug it to the river after the yotes found it and then the smell was still there but the yotes went elsewhere. I had deer the next day. If the yotes go then the deer come back.

I haven't drug it off yet and may not. it just depends on if I have time to or not this week. I did fail to mention the fresh rub I found 10 feet from the carcas. It looked newer than two weeks old. I feel sure the deed deer was there when the rub was made.

    Here is the rub:
