So Saturday was opening day for bow season here and me and my father in law decide to hunt a 150 acre farm in the afternoon. (We are afternoon hunters) We get to our separate areas and begin to wait. He climbs a tree and I decided to use a blind.

Around 6pm the deer just start flowing into his area. He actually spots two nice doe but elected to pass and low and behold right behind them was a 12 point monster buck. He draws back and fires but misses! The buck ran off about 15 yards and he thought it was over and done with. He decided to use his grunt call and blew into it real lightly. Here come the buck!! He got a textbook broadside shot and nailed him behind the shoulder.

We start to track its blood trail and all of a sudden it just stops as if the buck was bionic or something. We combed the whole area for hours looking for it and not a single drop of blood for miles! Such a disappointing opening! :(

Sunday we decided to come back and this time I took his old spot and he grabbed a new one. And right on Que here come the herd. Except this time I got 12 doe racing at me while i'm in a blind. I elect to let some pass in hope they wont spot me but one baby walked right up on me and busted me... What an awful feeling :(

My father in law on the other hand called the doe in that came his way and busted her right in the lung area. We found bubbly blood for a long time, but guess what happened?? She stopped bleeding... We found a giant pool of blood right before it quit. We have no idea what happened and we aren't novice trackers. We have been doing it a while.

I'm starting to think these deer have field medic kits on them :P

Bad shot placement, pushing the deer too soon, those are your two options I believe. Though, I would lean towards the former.

Yeah we both think the buck might have had a bad angle, but the doe was a pretty good shot we both believe. Either way it wasnt me who shot. I make my shots count :woot:

If a monster buck was wounded and not found on my land I would be pretty  Then to wound and not recover another deer less than 24 hours later ? ? Coincidence ? ? ? I wouldn't bet on it. I would say both the shots and the tracking were not up to par.

Welcome to BHC Scary 1st post

Yeah it is very sad that it's happened twice. I don't like it very much. He has killed hundreds of deer before this, I just don't understand it really. Must be season jitters or something...

Hopefully there wont be hard feelings on this forums towards me :(
