Whose got Roku devices? Just read an article that states Roku had been sued for patent infringement and lost. Wife just bought a Roku sound bar and was going to buy the woofer and back speakers as well. LOL Investing.com – Roku stock (NASDAQ:ROKU) plunged 8% Wednesday after Universal Electronics claimed victory in a patent infringement case it was pursuing against the maker of remotes and streaming devices. Universal Electronics shares (NASDAQ:UEIC) rose 5%. According to Universal, the United States International Trade Commission has banned Roku from importing infringing “televisions, set top boxes, remote control devices, streaming devices and sound bars.” Roku is allowed to import items provided they don’t infringe on Universal’s patents, according to the order. Universal makes remotes compatible with a range of electronics. The order, issued Dec. 3, will become final on Jan. 9. Until then, President Joe Biden has time to review the order and even overturn it. The ITC hears disputes about imported goods that infringe on U.S. patents or imports that hurt the domestic industry because of unfair trade practices in the exporting country. Universal filed the complaint last year against Roku and TV-makers TCL and Hisense at the ITC for infringing several patents. The case was later narrowed to include only Roku. Universal is also pursuing cases against Roku in the district court in central California.
We just got a Roku last week. So far, I like it better than Chromecast and Firestick. I hope this does not mess up the tv service device. I could care less about the other tech.
We've had roku for years. Works well. I guess the devils in the details about the infringement and the effects on their devices, software and operations.
I've had ROKU for a long time...it's how I first found BHOD and that was in 2012 so going on a decade. I also have 2 TCL (ROKU) TVs that perform very well, one is in my camper and it's what I use when I am hunting, just use a wi-fi hotspot and I can stream whatever I want. Needless to say, I love it. Seems kind of a petty infringement case (the remotes?) but maybe they did just copy the tech although it would seem remote tech would be pretty ubiquitous. Unless it's some kind of new voice-recognition version.
This was one version that I read. The one I read before I came to work ALL Roku devises violate the patent. And goes on to state that as of 9 Jan 22, that the US will not be able to import any Roku devise. We love our Roku. The sound bar is our 3rd upgrade. I also found BHOD there.
I own 2 devices. Prefer them over the amazon devices (had 2 firesticks and 1 firebox). Sounds like an opportune time to buy up several of these before they stop shipping them state side.
