1. Do you think he's guilty or innocent? 2. If you think he's guilty, do you think they can prove it? 3. What do you think McNamee has (be specific)? 4. Do you think Petitte will be called again to testify? What will he say? I think Clemens is guilty as a user and a liar (to Congress). Yes. I think they can prove it. I think McNamee has used syringes (based on his claims and how seriously they're pursuing this). I think Petitte will be called to testify. And, I think he'll sing like a songbird, implicating Clemens. He strikes me as a man who doesn't want to go to prison, himself. And, he probably got his HGH through Clemens (either directly or via a source). My "guess" is, he's afraid McNamee can connect those dots. 'Ol Rocket is probably gonna take a deal in the 11th hour. Congress, I HOPE, won't offer one, though. IMO, Clemens' testimony and stance is one of the most arrogant I've ever seen. ALL he had to do was refuse to comment. Then again, he could be innocent. Your take?
I believe is guilty both in using and testifying. I believe there is proof but at this point Im not sure what it is. Even if they had used needles containing HGH, its easy to tamper with that and use it as leverage for something. As for Petitte, yeah he will called upon again, and of course like any smart individual with a lot to lose he will spill the beans. Clemens should have stepped off his high horse and admitted that he used. There wouldnt be this investigation and he might still be playing as is Petitte.
He didn't even have to admit he used. He could have just pleaded the 5th and let it play out in the court of public opinion. Petitte.....I agree with you 100%. He seems like a man who sees what he's got to lose. My bet is Clemens is sweating over what he might say.
Agree with all of that, except the Pettite part(maybe). McNamee has said (at least I read it a while ago) that he does have syringes. If McNamee does in fact have the syringes there really is no need for Pettite to testify. They may call him just to help sensationalize things but I don't think he will or needs to. I am just wondering where all the the Barry Bonds vilifiers are and why they aren't jumping on this bandwagon as eagerly as they did the "Hate Barry" bandwagon. Bonds may have been a jerk but he wasn't a fraud like clemens.
I also don't think clemens' ego will let him take a deal. He'll cry innocent all the way to a conviction. Maybe he'll blame his wife again. What a POS.
That (Clemens) arrogant SOB is going down.................. Very little gives me more joy than watching an overly arrogant dude who thinks his is above it all get caught and burnt at the stake. Just like Rod Blagojevich is giving me much pleasure right now.
I'm not on the "Hate Berry" bandwagon, but how is he not a fraud? Clemens is just a bigger fraud. I think Clemens is guilty on both accounts. What happens to him now doesn't really matter to me. I just hope its over with quickly. We don't need ESPN updating this every 5 minutes. Btw, what ever happened with James and Favre this summer?
Not a fraud in the sense of using, yes he was in that case, but a fraud in the sense of pretending to be this wonderful "face of the game" guy. Barry was a prick that didn't care if you liked him or not. clemens was a bigger prick that pretended he wasn't so nice things would be said/written about him. Hope that makes sense.
Clemens' arrogance was proven when he CHOSE to testify to Congress. He was in NO WAY required to do so. He's dug his own grave.....................unless he's innocent.
I get what you're saying Bruce, but I think any athlete that uses steroids is a fraud. Even if he/she admits to it.
Good questions Jeff. Honestly I think their going to make an example out of Clemens with this one. It's pretty sad If he did actually take steroids which It's really looking like he did. If he and Bonds both did take steroids, I see no difference In either of them as a whole.
Anyone read or hear his official statement regarding the trial? After proclaiming his innocence and "looking forward to challenging the government", he doesn't sign off with "Roger Clemens". He ends it with simply "Rocket". This dude is so far gone.
In his defense.....that was from a post on his Facebook or Twitter account. If his monniker is "Rocket" on the site, I can somewhat understand it. But, yeah.....that jumped out at me, first thing, this AM. You think John Wayne signed his meal receipts as "The Duke"?
yes get it over with, the rest were proven guilty like mcguire, canseco's wonderful book on ratting on everyone! I just don't understand people have been busted in the past but yet players continue to do things illegal and think they will get away with it. I agree with matt, I don't want to here about it every 5 seconds on t.v. or radio.
Vito... Clemens is in good company. T.O. signed off his twitter account, yesterday...... ................"Batman".
My only beef in this is, why does the FBI care? No body was beating down Lyle Alzado's door for taking steroids. NFL is full of roided up freaks and no one seems to care. All that said, I think he's guilty as hell and going to spend some time at the federal butt hut. I must admit though, I really did like to watch him pitch.
Huh? No one cares? You mean the league with the longest standing, and most strict anti-steroid policy? If the MLB had policed itself, it doesn't appear the feds would have been involved. Once they did get involved, the players started lying their asses off. You lie in federal court, and get caught, it doesn't matter what you were lying about in the first place.
I just wish people paid as much attention to our current economic, political, and world issues as they will to this fiasco, or what latest criminal charge is being brought against a cast member of Jersey Shore (Not directed at anyone here, just our population as a whole).
