The New Frontier Pack From: Rocky Mountain Packs The Frontier Packs 1950 cubic inches of space using flocked nylon on the outside, and lined with nylon rip stop on the inside. It has a waterproofing Polyurethane material sprayed on backing of both materials. However Rocky Mountain Packs does not claim that it is totally waterproof, as water finds a way even around zippers. Chet owner of Rocky Mountain Packs says the key is to have the zipper flap pulled down over the zipper. Their Predator camo packs however, are waterproof, at least the Material to a point. This material is built with an internal rubber lining, making it very waterproof. This pack weighs 1.5 lbs., has 3 external pockets and makes a very practical daypack or even a great pack to carry photo equipment as well. The pack features padded adjustable shoulder straps and an adjustable chest strap as well. The main compartment measures a nice 17 x 11 x 7, external compartment 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 x 2, 2 more external pockets 12 x 5 x 3 provides a lot of storage for a daypack. Other features include, laminated inner nylon liner for water resistance and strength, #10 YKK heavy duty coil zipper, no rattle quiet zipper pulls and 3/8" closed cell foam construction makes this pack at $89.00 a heck of a bargain. Add the Ridge Runner Fanny Pack and have the Sawtooth Combo Pack used by hunters, guides and outfitters throughout the western states. I used this pack to carry my DSLR and other items around while on a camping trip. During one of the nights during a severe thunderstorm we had to abandon our tent and move to another. I left the pack in the tent and when morning arrived I was very relieved to find the pack sitting on a wet floor and all my gear dry as a bone. The pack was comfortable on my back with around 5 to 6 pounds of gear in it but, did not take any long hikes during this trip. I did take this on a 2 mile hike a couple of weeks ago and found it very comfortable with around 4 pounds of gear. Again this is a day pack and I am looking to do short hikes and getting some gear out to my deer stand. I enjoy this pack very much and find it quite practical to use.
