I've got a new ripcord that is just begging to be installed, but was curious what everyone is doing to silence them? I've heard of people putting mole skin (or similar) on them. I thought about dipping the prongs in liquid plastic - but don't want to ruin the rest either....

    Thoughts on what to use?

I first tried to use some of that adhesive backed felt, but I didn't like it. There always seemed to be an edge peeling up.
What I ended up doing was finding an old pair of cotton camo gloves that had holes in it. I cut out salvageable fabric and made a little 'glove' for each prong. Then I sewed the two together. It works awesome. It took a little time but it was worth it. I ended up making one for my wife too.
I'll take a picture so you can see what I did.

I also put felt on the shelf to silence the rest as it falls.

Here's a photo. Its quiet, works great, and its pretty rugged. It stays quiet in extreme cold too.

Fitz - that looks pretty good. How long has it been on? Does it seem like it's holding up pretty well?

I put it on July of '07, so its held up pretty good. I definitely put it through the paces this season (rain, snow, etc.). I was fortunate enough to get out about 4 days a week all season. It's still in as good of shape as when I put it on.

Fitz that looks great!! I used sticky back camo on the shelf and a sliver in the prongs. It has held up great.

I used heat shrink tubing to silence the prongs when the arrow is drawn.

As far as something on the bow shelf...I used the Simms Limbsaver Drop Away pad on top of a layer of camo fleece silencing material cut to fit my shelf along with part of the sight window.

Picture of the shrink tubing (used and abused but still working):

Any of the above methods appear to work well and effective at dampening unwanted sound!

    Hope this helps.

I had a new Ripcord. I put the limbsaver pad along with the mole skin and couldn't get it to quite up. I ended up just going and buying a QAD HD rest.

So far I'm happy with my Ripcord, just got it mounted on my new Captain last weekend. I was surprised that with very limited time with my new setup, I still shot a 238 out of 240 in 3d league last week. Now I just need to decide what direction to go as far as silencing it. Like the ideas mentioned!

Bols - Does that heat shrink tubing silence it pretty well?

Yeah, I think it helps considerably. I just ended up taking off the shrink tubing since it was getting rather tattered and after I removed the tubing I could hear that audible noise once again. I am assuming that meant the tubing was helping.

Granted, I stopped at the heat-shrink tubing and really didn't venture very far into what I could wrap the prongs with. I would say the set-up like Fitz used would work as well as the tubing, if not better! But if you want to try the tubing out, it doesn't cost you much and I carry extra tubing and a lighter in my pack incase I would need to make an infield repair.
