Like it or not the new(er) duet between Rinhanna and Eminem is the hottest thing going right now. It is immensely popular. The link below on "You tube" has had over 100 million hits alone. If you have children between 14-22 they most likely have watched this video. If your not familiar with this song, I'll spoon feed you a little bit for some background. Here is the link to video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uelHwf8o7_U&ob=av2e The song is a about a dysfunctional relationship between a couple. When they fight they both tend to become abusive and violent, especially the guy. After the fight is done the guy promises to never do it again (thus the lies). The women also gets off on being abused (thus she "loves the way it hurts). Here is a quick excerpt of the lyrics. "Girl" But that's alright Because I like The way it hurts Just gonna stand there And hear me cry But that's alright Because I love The way you lie I love the way you lie "Guy" But when it's bad It's awful I feel so ashamed I snap Who's that dude I don't even know his name I laid hands on her I'll never stoop so low again I guess I don't know my own strength So without regard if you like this type of music or not. Does this message and video go too far? MTV premiered this video just before their most popular show "Jersey Shore". That is not exactly playing it at 11pm if you know what I mean. So even if you play the card that "nobody listens to the lyrics", the video is pretty graphic as well IMO. To me, this has a negative impact on young girls and guys. Symbolizing the fact that abusive relationships can be "hot". What do you think?
apparently chris brown didn't hit her hard enough... but seriously, you'd think after what she went thru this would be the last thing she'd be singin about, the lyrics make it sound like somethin she's proud of... spousal abuse is repugnant, and I can certainly understand wanting to bring awareness about it, I think they chose a poor form to bring that awareness...
It might be a negative song but wow does that women have a beautiful voice and a few other attributes. LOL
We have morons that walk amongst us these days. They do not care who they negatively influence or hurt if there is a dollar to be earned. Our kids and society deserve better.
I must interpret things differently. I find it a really great song that puts itself out there call attention to a horrible act and in no way “glorifies” it or makes it “cool”. It seems like when a song comes out the people who want to tear it down, will read into it whatever they want to, in order to back their stance. In this case, it seems like those who want to bring it down are using its literal meaning in order to do that.
Okay, tell me how this song or video condemns abusive relationships? I'm tearing down the lyrics and video of a song that shows relationship violence and where the women says she likes it. What am I missing?
I disagree with you that they are trying to show the absurdity in this. I think this is how you sell more albums these days. A controversial song that has a video that has hot as hell Meghan Fox on there tonguing Charlie from Lost. If they wanted to show the absurdity they would use some white trashy looking people. Not supermodels. Does a 14 year old girl who loves Rihanna see that "absurdity"? If they want to put something like this in a movie that is rated PG-13 or R fine. But this is mainstream, with EVERY young girl and boy watching, some of which idolize these people.
Just another hip-hop song about beating women and drinking 40 oz.'s out of a brown bag. Is anyone shocked. Now if we could just add a " f da police" and a " dialing 187 on a motha f'ing cop biatch", we would be complete. rybo, that had to be the weakest reply ever. Please tell us what you think the song is about.
I agree with Ryan on this one. I see it as a means for her to deal with her Chris Brown issues. If anything why are people letting their kids listen to it? I hate to say it but we do not live in a bubble and as a parent one should advise their child that sometimes you can love someone but going back to abuse will be a never ending pattern.
There is nothing I can write that is going to make any of you(who are against it) understand that the song is NOT about making domestic abuse look cool. If the video & song itself doesn't plainly do it, I sure as hell can explain it any better. I'm out. I got elk to go kill.
Sorry dude. Even if you did convince me of the meaning of the song you would never convince me that young children should be watching that video. I guess I am a traditionalist in that aspect. Maybe I'm too old. lol. On one hand we sprew this crap out there. And with the Internet these days anyone, can see anything, easily. Even if you monitor your child's access they are still going to see it at a friends house or somewhere. And then when children react in the same manner of the media they are seeing we wonder why. The best thing you can do is educate your children. The problem is that there are way too many parents that don't educate and the child gets raised on the values of their idols. I still don't think most 14 year olds will interpret this song or video as what you say. But it is what it is. Good luck to you on your Elk Hunt.
I have to laugh at this thread. Eminem is actually putting out some of the best music of his career (sober, may I add) and still gets ridiculed and accused of poisoning our children. Everyone's mind is already made up and I think thats where some of these responses have originated. What about ole Hank Jr? Hell, he smokes dope & drinks and that's played in the mainstream too. Guess its okay to to teach our youth to smoke a little reefer and drink a fifth?
