Yes, I absolutely would stop. Just like I stop for most of the year when it is illegal to hunt.

Its most certainly a right. Its written right into the WI statutes as a right. If its not a right in your states statutes then yo need to make it so.

to play along, what would the punishment be for hunting/fishing illegally? Taking away my birthday, great I don't want to age anyway.

then I should be able to shoot the bears on the land I hunt without worry about being arrested.

It's a right if it's your primary means of survival. Meaning you live exclusively off the land and apart from general society.

If it's a recreational activity then it becomes a privilege that is regulated, managed and can be revoked if the laws are not followed.

It all depends on the context

Privilege in my eyes, mainly because it can be taken away from you. Everyone has the right to hunt or fish once licenses are purchased which makes me lean toward more of a privilege. Even though constitutions may say it is a right. I'm assuming most of those were written before people went and purchased a license to hunt or fish.

Some people do use it to live on and not just a recreational part of their lives. This is what would lean me towards it being a right instead of privilege. People used hunting and fishing as a source of food to survive. In this regard, everyone has the right to try to survive. This isn't the case today with more options for food.

Seems to be both for me.

What came first? The chicken or the egg?

As long as someone, gov in this case, tells you when, where, how, and you pay to do it I would consider it a privilege. Regardless of what your state ad said or changed you still haveta pay to play so that's not much of a right imo.

In Mississippi it is a privilege, if you violate certain laws your hunting privilege can be taking away. For example Hunting deer with the aid of a light. (Head lighting deer). Your hunting license will be suspended for 3 years.

On that note then wouldn't voting or owning a gun also be privilege? Because those can also be taken away after breaking the law?

There is a very fine line in this case so it makes it tough. I agree it should be a right. For example if you are a landowner in Virginia you don't have to purchase a licenses to hunt your land. If you don't own land you have to buy a licenses and in some cases buy a permit to hunt certain WMAs. A right implies anyone can do it but that is not necessarily true and if you view it as true its with caveats. Due to those caveats I think it more closely aligns with a privilege by definition.

For what it's worth, this is one of the things I was able to find on line:
"...a right is something that can be done because it originates commonly within all individuals, a privilege is something that cannot be done without permission. The Freedom of Speech, of Religion, of the Press, and to Peaceably Assemble are not privileges. No man, woman, or child need ask for permission to exercise these rights."

You have a right to life but states can take away that right and kill you for crimes committed.

You have a right to keep and bear arms but states can take away that right and kill you for crimes committed.

You have a right to free speech but you cannot yell fire in a crowded theater lest you suffer punishment.

I WI you have a right to hunt but should you become a felon you can no longer own a firearm so you cant gun deer hunt.

rights can be suspended if you do some pretty terrible things.

Some here confuse "Rights" with "authority" or "License" for the management of game. You can hunt without a license but you will be cited for not paying for the authority or license.

I think you're arguing just for the sake thereof...

If someone is in favor of gov't being the ultimate authority and citizens being ruled subjects, then that someone has no idea of what our system of gov't is. We allow gov't to act as an agent to protect our Natural Rights and in exchange we agree to rules that allow everyone the same decency toward exercising those rights.

We gave gov't the ability to act as an agent to protect our right of self-reliance through hunting to ensure that right sticks around. Hence, we have game laws...

If someone is a horn or "trophy" hunter, then yeah, I guess it could be a privilege for some of them.

regardless of what it is, there is an obvious difference between people who see it as a privilege vs. those who see it as an entitlement. And most people on here spend a lot of time talking against entitlement mentality.

I'd say having grocery stores is a privilege and hunting is a right.

    Great question!
It should be both but because restricted rights and limited access are often infringed upon, it becomes a privilege only available to some... reason to be thankful if indeed we can consider it as a right but also a privilege. I do.

Yes, and many can't for a variety of reasons so it is also a privilege for those who can partake in it.

    [/QUOTE]

My view of a right is something like freedom of speech. It doesn't cost anything and you don't need a license to get it. More of the cost or licensing required that makes me think it is closer to a privilege since it can be taken away from you. That's how I view being able to hunt. I view it as a privilege and respect game laws because I don't ever want that right/privilege taken away from me. Potato/Patato.

Clearly your examples are rights though.....Not saying you are wrong. Just how I view things. I'm not speaking legal terms.

Now, let's move onto an important question that has a clear answer. Which broadheads are the best? Mechanical or Fixed? HAHA.

The right to hunt and fish was given to humans by God. We were given domain over the animals and told to use them as food. I appreciate that monies I spend on a license go towards conservation, public lands, etc. so I have no problem paying for one and abiding by seasons, limits and such. But giving Uncle Sam money in exchange for permission to hunt or fish is just a formality. If the day ever comes when a government entity decides it is illegal for me to hunt or fish...then I guess in the eyes of that entity I will become a poacher. Maybe that isn't a PC response, but that's how I feel. God gave me permission...I don't need anyone else's.
