So all I have a friend that Is going to school to be a conservation agent one of his questions was about hunting and fishing whether it is a right or a privilege

I told him that I believe that it should be a right due to the fact that it is one of the things that this country was founded on

What are your opinions on the subject

    In today's modern age, it's a privilege.

Pretty simple for me since I recently finished "A short History of the American Revolution".

We aren't subjects, we are Americans, its our right.

I can understand it being a right in those times. In today's modern society where you can buy food anywhere, hunting and fishing is a privilege.

In Minnesota it is a right by state constitional amendment.

You better bail out of that school you are going to, sounds like they are getting to you, using the white privilege mindset:lol:

LOL!! Ok, I stand corrected then.

EDIT: hmmmm...it still makes more sense to me that it's a privilege. Just like a drivers license. That's not a right, it's a privilege.

Interesting how this "right" we have is on hundred percent controlled by the government, can we still really call it a right?

I'd say its a privilege, but if somebody wants to call it a right then whatever too.

To anyone stating privilege, I'm curious what do you think about planting a garden or walking to a destination?

I do see the point with comparing a hunting license with a drivers license, it is entirely possible for a person who commits a serious game law violation to lose the right to buy a license in several states so the right can be suspended. That being said if I follow the laws my right to hunt/buy a hunting license can not be infringed.

It's a right as long as the laws are abided by. In my eyes anyway. . I also believe your right should be able to be suspended if you choose not to follow the laws. Although if a person is living off the land I believe they have a right to hunt and forage for food in order to survive no matter what the laws state.

And there's a big difference between suspended and taken away.

I see it as a privilege dependent on you following the correct laws. It can be taken away.
If people saw it as more of a privilege it would not be abused as often as it is.

It is a natural right to be self reliant (self sufficient). Anyone can do it legally in society as long as you follow the rules that a society agrees to.

A privilege means only a few get to do it...

In our society today, regardless of what states have written into their constitutions, it is a privilege. If it was a right, you would not need to purchase a license and that license can be denied without cause.

Just because we aren't subjects doesn't make everything a right. Hunting is definitely a privilege today, I have to buy licenses even if I hunt on private property.

So your "natural rights" can be taken away? Doesn't sound that natural to me.

The real question at hand. What if hunting and fish became "illegal"? Would you stop?

In my opinion it should never be illegal to pursue game legally on property where legal so to that extent I guess it is a right...however it is more of a priviledge...

The ownership of public lands in and across the entire US is a right...one which I will fight for till I die.
