I shoot a Easton FMJ 340, 100 grain rage BH. Is this the right arrow to get the maximum energy? My bow is set at 70#
Bone, the energy game is a trade off. In maximizing energy transfer you are losing speed. IMO I like a middle of the road arrow that will fly fast but still hit like a half ton truck. I like flatter trajectories like some of the guys on here because you are less likely to misjudge a hanging branch that can throw your shot off. I am no specialist at saying how much energy you have but i know that you will need to know how fast your arrow is going and how much it weighs in grains.
Need some more info to figure it. Arrow speed, total arrow weight. Based of this I could tell you KE for your current setup and predict the rest.
Two things you need to look at. Momentum and KE. I already know I have enough of both so I shoot for speed because I like the flatter trajectory.
I believe that bow IBO's at around 306fps. Take 10fps for the 29"DL giving you about 296fps with an arrow weighing approximately 420 grs. I think. If I remember right subtract .4 fps for every grain over 350. 296-28=268fps. Someone with an on line calculator can check this, I am going from memory and I may be incorrect about IBO of the bow. This should get you in the ball park though. IF you are concerned a C.O.C. head would be an option. I am shooting the same arrow out of my bow now but I have not chron'd the bow with them or weighed them yet.
