X1000. I'm ridiculously competitive. I was very hard on myself even playing little league. I always wanted to be better than I was the day before. I NEVER showed arrogance, never taunted, never was cocky. In fact, I often would congratulate runners I would meet at second base after a play (I was a shortstop). We were competitors, but never showing the lack of class some of these athletes show. With that being said, he's not the first and won't be the last, so I'm not too sure why all of the media attention.
All I know is that his actions amped up the Super Bowl a few notches and got a lot of attention for the big game. Hoping we see an Epic game with the Seahawks coming out on top.
I'm sure it will be a great game, but like many others I hope Sherman gets embarrassed over and over. He deserves it.
I'll drink to that! Agree a million times over. As many of you know around here I am a diehard sports nut. Been playing everything from recreation ping pong to professional golf my entire life. And now have passed the seed to the next generation and still involved. Never in my life have I personally done anything like that or will stand for my kids doing anything like that. You lose gracefully and you win gracefully (and everything in between). That's rule #1. Nothing trumps that. You let your play and performance do the talking and that's it. In fact, doing the opposite and walking away with no words and your head held high, sends the same message if not more of a message.
I watched my son high five an opposing player that just hit a 300' bomb against his team at 12 year old national regionals. Just put his hand up as the kid rounded 3rd. Yes, they are not getting paid but sportsmanship should never be lost from "professional" sports. We lose as a society when that happens Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
As much as i can see you mean well by this post, your missing the big picture. Sherman is NOT a bad dude, he is competitive, and maybe crossed the line a little. Im going to post this again to bring it into perspective: He didnt rape a woman like Kobe Bryant and Mike Tyson. He didnt cheat like Arod and Barry Bonds. He didnt kill anybody like Rae Carruth and Aaron Hernandez. He didnt spill a cup of water on the floor like Jason Kidd did. He didnt try to interrupt a play like Mike Tomlin did. He didnt punch an opposing player like Woody Hayes did. He talked some trash after winning a football game legally.
Wonderful .. neither did Peyton Manning (or every other player at the conference championship games). What's your point? Nobody is comparing him to any of that. Because you don't do things to the severity of what you mentioned, it is ok to run your mouth like an idiot? He gets a free pass? Because he didnt' commit a crime? Or he's from Compton so he gets a little leash? Give me a break. Make the play give a high five or two and celebrate with your teammates with some dignity.
Lets put it this way... There is terrible sportsmanship between alot of rivals (Ohio State-Michigan, Packers-Bears, ect), is it okay for them to jaw with each other? Take it a little farther? Go a little overboard? (I had to watch the Ohio State/Michigan game with a bunch of OSU fans, and they all defended that lineman and all the actions of the players after the big skirmish. These same yahoos are the ones calling Sherman a poor sport, hood rat, ect and he never even threw a punch)
I must have missed where there is any dignity in the NFL? Every team has showboating players with sack celebrations, touchdown celebrations, i got a first down celebrations....ect... I just think its the cool thing to hate on Richard Sherman right now.
Caleb, its about him and how great he thinks he is. We all know he's good. No reason yo use national TV to tell everyone I'm the greatest. Reminded me of mohamad Ali. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
I agree. All of it is a bunch of crap. Not just Sherman. And you're right. None of the other stuff you just mentioned is much different. He did take it to a different level though. Comparable to TO running to the star against the Cowboys and celebrating on it. Just drawing attention to yourself and being an idiot. He used the media to praise himself and take shots at the competition..... simply not cool. How anyone can find it cool is weird to me. I don't mind a little banter and trash talking amongst players... trying to get in their head etc... but this wasn't anywhere close to that. Let me ask you. Why didn't Peyton Manning go off in his post game interview? He has more of a right to praise himself than any other player in the NFL this season.
That's just not how he is. My desire to see Sherman succeed is purely based on the fact that everyone else wants him to fail. Sometimes, you just want to watch the world burn
