I had three bob cats come in last year while I was in the stand. A big one and two kittens. I meowed at them and they were kind of confused, but when I said “here kitty kitty” the big one started doing that low pitched cat sound and took off, caught a pic of the kitten as it ran up the tree. We don’t have a season on bob cats yet. “Here kitty, kitty” didn’t work as well as I figured it would though
I’ve got one farm that is absolutely laced with bobcats. I saw 4 different adults and 2 kittens in a 3 day span in October last season. I’ve got a buddy that traps but his job and our weather prevented him from doing much this Winter. I’m hoping he gets back to it this year.
Our season begins mid-December but I dont start trapping cats until mid-January into the end of February, better coats and better prices. Two years ago I trapped a 38lb cat and last year I had one come in at 32lb. I had way too many when I bought this place and zero quail or turkeys. I now have a covey of around 40 quail and haven't found a Turkey carcass in three years. And like I said, I love building sets, it is addictive.
All I know is I’m about to go ballistic on some squirrels. This is the current situation... I get all excited every time my phone goes off...and its a freaking squirrel Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
6 more days till opening day. Can't wait to be in the stand on my first time being home for opening day Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
Maybe you need some bobcats, wolves, and coyotes introduced to take care of the squirrels. Or hire out gun slingers using tax payer money. ( I really just wanted to use the word gun slinger). Get some of @CoveyMaster ’s river otters and set up a otter vs squirrel fight club. Just trying to think outside the box
This is my first year being able to hunt opening day. Good thing for vacations. I'm just hoping something comes cruising through. Deer and elk and other species are opening on the 30th. Could be a busy first of Sept or a slow one. Hopefully a busy one. Between my wife and daughter (first year rifle hunting in October) and I we'll have five tags to hopefully fill. Maybe a stupid question but do Mule deer count for the contest? I know there are whitetails in Idaho but seems like you may be more likely to get a muley. Either way I would love to hunt in or even just spend time in Idaho. That kind of country speaks to me.
On that farm I only had 3 cams on 157 acres and I only ran two of them yesterday. I’ll run the other this weekend. That farm has very little cover on it. There’s probably 5 or 6 deer per acre of cover so it’s not hard to get pics on a mineral lick or a main trail through cover like those two spots where the pics came from. On another farm I have 12 cameras on 500 acres and that’s probably not enough (boonerville would have at least 30).
I had a friend go visit Boise and never came back. To top it off, his parents moved up there two years later. Anytime you call the guy he has his foot in a stream catching something delicious.
I could see that happening to me but I’d have to leave my wife behind. She’d love Idaho but she ain’t getting more than a stones throw away from those grand babies for more than about a week.
Picked up another shooter today. He’s only 4 but he made a big jump and didn’t add a G4 on right side. I won’t pursue this deer but he’d better not come by in November or later.
Checked on this plot yesterday not doing too bad considering how weedy it was a couple weeks ago. I won’t hunt on top of this plot but I hung a set and brushed a groundblind in about 75 yds off this edge. Hope to catch them coming
