Since we have some savvy guys here I have a question. I bought a new release, wise guy and my usual release is a cobra. Both are hook style index releases. With the wise guy I'm hitting about 5 or 6 inches left, compared to the cobra. Very consistent groups with both. I don't feel like my anchor changed and the length feels ok (also part of my anchor I know), so wtf? I could understand a slight difference, but 6 inches seems weird to me. The trigger is substantially lighter on the wise guy, but...shouldn't be an issue
I can't even begin to imagine what would cause that. It doesn't even seem possible. I went from a TruFire Hardcore to the Wiseguy and the impact point was the same with better grouping. Maybe someone else will have an idea.
I'm stumped. I was a bit worried at first, thinking a bumped my sight or something, but swapped to the cobra and dead on. I really didn't have a lot of time as daylight was fading. I'll shoot in the morning again, but I probably shot over 30 arrows between the 2 releases
It doesn't make sense. It's your bow, so if it's dialed in and you're sighting properly it should hit in the same spot. Well, unless there is something I don't know about.
I have seen this going back and forth between a closed jaw and hook . Two things come into play. First the head lengths, a longer head and trying to keep the same anchor point will cause a right handed shooter to change his elbow position to adjust for the length. Most times it pulling your elbow back towards your body/neck… that’s where the left hits come in. Shorten your strap or barrel length on the hook by 1/2 inch. The next thing is bit of a pain but you mostly only see it with hand helds. A closed hook will some times hit horizontal different then an open hook be cause your able to rotate it more and hence you torque the d loop. You see this a lot with a stiff loop material like Gibbs. Easy fix is a slightly longer loop or change to a more flexible material like BCY 24. I think your case though a head adjustment might be in order. One this I have seen with Spot Hoggs …the trigger tends to be crazy light. If your used to pulling through a heavier trigger then you might run into some issues. Careful it doenst make you start punching. Just adjust it and add another couple pounds to prevent it and allow you too pull through the shot.
He is dead on with this^^^^^ I'll give you a call about this today Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
Listen to those two guys ^^^ Personally, I have always had to retune my bow if I went to a completely different release… thanks to them, now I know why Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
After posting about it, I compared the length of the 2 and the spot hogg was definitely Oh I'm listening. It's why I asked this group. Trying to adjust the length and trigger weight now. First try resulted in, wait for it.....same ****. Still hitting left.
There is also this, the wiseguy head is the solid one, or stiff head. The cobra kind of swivels and gives a bit to not torque the d loop. I'm not sure if the way I anchor, almost like you would a hinge or button, is causing torque on the d loop.
My Trufire Hardcore had two swivels: one linear and one horizontal. Based on what Fix and Trial said I guess I’m just lucky that my impact point stayed the same when I switched to the Wiseguy.
Im looking at that pic and wondering how your Cobra release is so much shorter than the WiseGuy. With it being that much longer did you have to change your anchor point? Edit: After posting that I went and put my Wiseguy and my Hardcore side by side and the length difference is the same as yours even though when they are strapped on the end of the hook reaches the same point on my middle finger. So, never mind I guess.
Update. Paper tune found some....issues I fixed. Still hitting left to the point my sight is almost bottomed out left to hit point of aim. Fm running with a chain saw
Driving lesson tonight. My son still needs some hours driving before he can get his license. Going to load up the step ladder, spotting scope and drive some back roads around the properties we can hunt tonight to see if we can put eyes on some big deer. Will share if we see anything of interest. The step ladder set up in the bed of the pickup works great for spotting!
Looks like I’ll be heading to Kentucky from 11/5-11/10 to hunt with a friend… Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Yeah it was beautiful this morning in Lancaster also. Not sure of temp but a sweatshirt felt good. Hot next week though. 90’s Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Oct is close but I really dread the month before. I’ve got so much stuff I want to get done before then. Headed to Richmond VA this evening for the weekend to meet up with my daughter who’s driving there from NC. I’m going to try to check thread out in morning before everyone else wakes up but might not be on much until Monday. Gonna knock my list out when I return. And I'm back to square 1. I may send the wiseguy back. Nice that I got a good paper tune out of the debacle though.
