Guys, a quick question. Recently I am shooting a PSE Stinger 3G. Had my best year ever harvesting 3 deer this past season. I am going to step up my game and get a new bow, either a Strother or a Hoyt, my question is a drop away much better than a whisker buiscut? I cant make up my mind, need some input from you guys. Plese give me your opinions, much appreciated, GROMMEL.

Is a drop away better? For full containment, it truly is hard to be a full capture like the WB. However, I like minimal contact, so that's where many of the drop aways excel (provide support without the necessary fletching contact. I'm a big fan of limb driven drop ways due to simplicity, ease of install, lack of effect of tuning/specs of the bow, etc. I've been using a Limbdriver for several years and have been quite happy. They have a lot of model options now including more containment styles. G5 just released a new limb driven containment rest that looks interesting as well.

I shoot the Trophy Ridge Revolution, it has full containment but the accuracy of a drop away. My dad still uses his whisker biscuit though. With a whisker biscuit there is nothing that can go wrong whereas with a drop away a spring could break, freeze or some other mechanical issue could happen. Until something on mine does break I'll stick with it though, just hope it don't happen when a booner is standing in front of me at 20 yards.

Have to agree 100% with this I just put a limb driver on my bow and I could see and feel the diff over the WB! It's simple no ratchet knobs or anything to fail like that! Great rest and it contains the arrow almost 90%

I just have to ask one question...if you just had your best year with a stinger 3G, a perfectly good hunting bow, why are you going to drop $1000 or more on a hoyt? I understand the appeal of the hoyt as a target shooting bow and/or a bow that can be more accurate for much longer range shots like for big game where you arent able to get within 30 yds..but for whitetails I just cant fathom making that big of an investment. But to each his own I guess..

Answer to your question, I like the NAP apache, one of the simplest to set up IMO and works great and very decently priced..even on a stinger 3G :) If you're going to have someone else set it up, someone who knows what they're doing, i hear the QAD drop aways are nice. The higher quality ones 'HDX' versions, not the 'hunter' version.

the whisker biscuit is the most commonly used arrow rest out there. It's accurate out to 100+ yards and only slows the arrow down 2-3 fps so there is no need to buy a drop away. I got the trophy ridge revolution 2.0 just because I could the but the main reason was that it looked better and I got back my 2-3 fps. It has the same containment as the whisker biscuit because it doesn't rotate until you shoot and it's only $75.

I was asked the same question about getting a new bow if I had great success with my Stinger and the answer I give is I want to step up next season to a better bow, but I will keep my Stinger as a second bow. I just feel the Stinger doesnt have the kenetic energy that the Strother or Hoyts have.

The Nap apache is nice. They have it on sale at walmart.com right now. I believe $53 free shipping.

I'd get a new Hoyt if you don't want a new PSE. I would also get the QAD HDX drop aways. The NAP Apache is great too, i have it on my Brute X and the QAD on my Revenge. If you like PSE, I'd would atleast shoot the new Premonition or DNA SP.

If you are looking for Kinetic Energy and is spending $1000s+, What are you trying to hunt? Because nowadays most bows have the speed and KE you are looking for at a better price point. I personally shoot a QAD HDX, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend that because I shoot it. It is honestly what is best for your bow. For example, if you get the New Full Throttle or the RPM 360; you would need a rest that can keep up with the speed. Lets just say for example that NAP Apaches, Limb Drivers are excellent for bows that are under IBO 335 FPS then you would be fine shooting and timing them with your bow.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you want that kind of KE enough to go through an elephant. Buy a speed bow match the best weight arrow to it, then determine what rest would be best for you.

I`m so confused, really good buddy of mine is trying to sell me this down range kinetic energy. I dont know much about it, but he swears by it. Guys, please help, does it really matter that much, we hunt in NY where our shots are very rareley out passed 30 yards. I`m making it more complicated than it needs to be I guess. Thanks, GROMMEL.

Get what fits you best...but someone couldn't pay me to trade a PSE for a Strother...lol. That is just me though. The new Premonition is one sweet bow. Those new Source cams are sweet with the adjustable limb stops.
