Since didn't really know what else to do with pics been taking guess tou guys het stuck with them. First of all I'm definitely no pro at any of this but know enough to make it look alright. Kind of a 10 foot body guy, meaning if stand back 10 foot it'll look alright ha. But about 2 weeks ago bought a 95 wrangler. Body is pretty rough and needs for work on other things. Frame is in pretty good shape other than skid plate for transmission needs replaced but guy had new one in box. So that saved around 250 bucks. Rust on everything else tho. So started other day goin over everything and seeing what needed fixed. Came up with list or parts and got started. Started working on both wheel wells on back. Cut out spot in once side and put patch in. Other sider just had surface rust so sanded it down, put some rust kill stuff, idk if it works, put bondo back and called it good. Idk if the guy that had it before me did it or what but someone went around and just slapped fiberglass over all the holes and rust in body and painted over. Didn't work out real well. Alot if spots are just craking and breaking back off. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Today started getting parts in for the floor pans and body mount supports under floor that need welded in. So had to strip stuff down and get ready. Ripped out interior and tore fender off. They had some metal screwed down but I've got the actual panels that need welded in. After ripped that out decided after crawling around need to replace all body mounts so plan is to take off body all together. So spent afternoon talking fenders of and getting body ready to lift off. While it's off I'm gonna clean frame up and recoat it. And once get floor squared away gonna put bedliner on inside of tub. Hoping tomorrow will have body ready to pull off. The body mount bolts are gonna probably be a pain but I soaked them down before left shop and will hit them again tomorrow. If they break guess they break. Ha Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Good luck, that’s a big job but jeeps are easy to strip and rebuild. Rust is the biggest enemy of jeeps and for some reason they never really address that issue through the years. Luckily, you can find YJ parts very easy. I have an 03 TJ I use to hunt/light off roading, fun to own/drive but they can suck the cash right out of you. Here’s mine after building/swapping in JK axles, lockers front/rear make for a super fun time.
I’m following the thread, I love jeeps and watching people do stuff Jeep stuff, none of mall crawler soccer mom jeeps though.
Yea this ones a 95 and as rough as body was I was kinda iffy buying it. But it's had some new stuff put on it before i got it ad it actually runs really good. So mechanically it's in good shape. And the frame is solid. It was just around where the bolts that hold skid plate on that broke loose. I got the plate and pieces that weld on frame included in the sale. I'm not sure what this will end up being once I'm done with it really. I coulda left alot of it alone for a while. But was one of them deals where started tearing into it and it's either fix it now or tear it back apart later. Body didn't bother me all that much but all the body mounts being junk and floor rotted out kinda did ha. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Pretty common, even on the TJ. The boxed frame does not allow the frame to drain properly and stuff just sits there. You can cut and weld new nut setts or try these if the frame isn’t blown out there: https://www.shop.blackmagicbrakes.com/Nutsert-Kits-87-95-Jeep-YJ-and-97-02-Jeep-TJ_c107.htm
good call on the bedliner- I highly, highly recommend Upol Raptor. Perfect texture and touch as nails. Not too rough, not slick. Will help fuse the bondo to the metal and cover up weld lines as well. I completely stripped my TJ down and then did it in 2 tone Raptor- maroon over black. Looked pretty good. Don't think I have any pics of it anymore, think I did a thread on here back in 13 when I first joined but I can't find anything I posted here from that long ago.
Ha damn shoulda looked around little more. Them woulda been alot easier to use them what I got. Things I got slip over frame and them weld them in. They have nuts welding to them use to mount plate to. Similar to them safety cap things but don't have to cut out frame and replace it. Yea I've notice that mention alot about the frame in that area. I actually thought about drilling hole or two in there so it'll drain. Have saw alot if people recoat with that por 15 stuff so thought about trying tjat on frame or since I'm doin the tub anyway i thought about coating it with that bedliner stuff. But idk how that's gonna work either. Trying to do it myself but if stuff I get is junk might break down and take it to local line x place. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Yea I'm not sure which bedliner gonna use yet. I'll check out that stuff tho. Like said in other post I'm trying to do it myself but if haveta break down and take it to line x I can. Idk if want that cost tho ha. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
LineX is pretty gritty. That and Herculiner both are rough and actually grab and show a lot of dirt. You can do Upol with just an air compressor- it comes with it's own gun. Trust me I am no bodywork expert and it came out really nice. YouTube it.
Plus Upol Raptor comes in several colors...not just black which will fade to dull dark gray like Herc and LineX
Thanks man. I had little practice on doors before tackled the bigger stuff. Was good refresher at least. Took few auto body classes back in hs but probably last time I've did any of it. Been little trial and error ha. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Por15 is a fun idea until you use it, works well but makes a hell of a mess. And if you need to cut/weld later it becomes an extremely poisonous gas. Not trying to sway you against it, just know the dangers of it. Fluid Film works well but does not "paint" anything, you also need to keep up with applications....and it's messy as well. I second Raptor liner over the others.
Well went this morning and picked up some of that por 15 stuff st local store. Guess shoulda waited and maybe looked around some more. I knew it was pretty messy stuff but didn't know about welding on it. So looks like I'll just sitck with it on the frame. Plan is to roll it out of shop and do it in driveway thats gravel may still put tarp down idk. Waiting on parts right now and think decided to fix the bigger spots on body and floor before pull it off frame. Will be easier to get to that way. Might be little over ambitious but I'm hoping to have mostly everything done between now and Monday. Body patches won't be bad mow tho since don't haveta make my own. Little set back ha. Ended up cutting top of hand while cutting out quarter panel. So had to get stitches. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
On plus side got all parts in today, except one b pillar for drivers side. Idk whats taking so long on that one. Before got myself hurt I started on passenger side quarter and floor. Hoping to be able to work on it next day or two. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
