I started going through my gear to begin cleaning, inventory, and inspection. When I open my tote to look into my camos and boots I found my boots are loaded with white mold. Irish setter Vaprtrek. They must’ve still had moisture after Turkey season. I’m going to attempt to clean and restore them. Not sure if I want to soak them. Any do’s or don’ts to know ahead of time?

Might try some diluted white vinegar to kill/remove the mold...

Thanks. I thought vinegar, as well. I found article that didn’t mention it though. They said bristle brush, saddle soap, rubbing alcohol, and gum erasers.

The brush first will remove any lose debris/ dead mold/spores. Not sure what the gum eraser would do, other than offer a very mild abrasive...

The alcohol likely to kill the mold, like the vinegar should.

Saddle soap good for leather moisturizing/suppleness and some degree of water resistance...but aren't the Vapatreks a goretex membrane? If so, once clean, I'd go with a different product...

Hot soapy water to remove the mold. Air dry in the sun. Repeat if needed. Danner makes a great boot conditioner after the boots are clean and dry.

They are a goretex membrane, but do have minimal leather. The gum eraser is to remove staining.

I’m agree definitely alcohol/vinegar to kill the mold, but perhaps running through the washer in cold water in gentle to rinse all of that crap out of the absorbing materials.

got an ozone generator? Would think that would kill any remaining mold also.
