To be blunt, I'm not giving up a single one of my guns even if I knew it would save an innocent life. Stupid scenario because I'm a law abiding citizen and don't kill innocent people like criminals and terrorists do, but that's where I stand. I'm not sure this is a debate at this point, none of us will ever change our stance, right? If not, why are we still going back and forth? I don't really know how else to say it, murder is already illegal, right? We just had a terrorist kill 8 people and injure 11 with a truck. What's your stance on trucks? See, it's such a pointless conversation at this point, I almost feel like we're being trolled in this thread.
Well one thing for sure, we both don't want innocent people to die. Unfortunately neither of our opinions on either side of this will solve the problem. Bad things happen, it just is.
Errror, error. but I think you already know that. Lets have some RAW numbers for 2010 which I believe are what you are looking at. Total Murder Rate - Canada = 16.23/per million US = 42.01/Per Million Gun Murder Rate - Canada = 4.59/per million US = 32.57/Per Million Rape - Canada = 16.88 US = 274/per million It shows that Canada has a less violent society, it shows that even with very restrictive gun laws murders will still happen, just with other weapons.
The point is simple, when you, me or anyone gets to the point where we need an arsenal to protect ourselves, we are already screwed, expect for Rambo here. When he's sitting on a pile of food and supplies the mob of 300+ will just lay down as he starts firing. So acting like an arsenal is needed to protect yourself from this mystical end of humanity I read about is just funny, when it does go to hell, your arsenal won't be enough when the mobs come. I can almost guarantee I am more prepared than most here, I just realize after the first few months if things don't start getting better, I am screwed, unless I get Rambo on my side
Do you use that same outlook on other areas in life? Might as well not buckle up, because if a semi plows into you then it wouldn't do much good anyways. Might as well not lock your doors, because if 30 armed robbers come in you won't be able to get them all.
OMG! Error, error, error..........lol. Are you 12? American Journal of Medicine stats from 2010. Firearm Homicide Rates per 100,000 population. Canada .50 U.S. 3.60 So, actually a little more than 7 times. But, you skew the numbers and what they mean to support your want to make absolutely no concession whatsoever. I get it. You don't care if there is an answer to saving children in our schools. At least not if it means restricting one single firearm you own. How very Macheavellian of you. The end will always justify the means. If the end is being able to own any and all firearms you have a "right" to. Damn the fallout. The U.S. has many times more guns and a ridiculously higher rate of crime with guns than any other wealthy country. But, there is obviously no correlation. Right.......because the others are just less violent. That makes perfect sense. Or???........
I skew the numbers? Why is that because I supply more than your simple ONE stat? Your line of thinking and your conclusion based on that single stat is flawed. You claim that the reason we have 7 times more murders by gun is because of their restrictive gun laws. Then how do you explain that we also have more than 16 times more rapes? At best all these stats show is that because of the restrictive gun laws, 75% of their murders happen by a means other then a gun. You can't show that if their laws were less restrictive that their total murders would increase. or that if ours were more restrictive our total murders would drop. Without that supporting statistics you cannot back your claim. You keep claiming there is an answer to saving children yet you have nothing to back it up. You want to have a chance of saving children. Make school more secure, and let there be teachers with a sidearm in a lock box.
Well, if I follow your logic, I would assume that the rapes occurred at gunpoint. So, I guess that would go down too. Why is gun violence so low in every other wealthy country? Do they just play nicer in the sandbox? It has absolutely nothing to do with any restrictive gun laws or fewer guns? Or, are we just not willing as a society to make that conclusion a possibility? By the way, there is a very strong correlation. Dozens of examples lead to a pattern, not an anomaly.
I just got finished with an exhaustive study of Canadians. I asked them all why they didn't murder somebody and to my surprise the most common answer was, I couldn't get a gun. I tabulated the results and if we combine them with those who did commit gun violence their rate would triple ours. OK so there was a little sarcasm there. You keep tunnel vision on GUN violence. The question you should be asking is why is our country so VIOLENT period. Do you honestly think the people who are committing the GUN violence would magically not be violent if they didn't have the gun? sorry to inform you but putting a gun in person's hand doesn't turn Jekyll into Hyde.
The stat I brought up about 52% of gun homicides are committed by a group who only make up 15% of the population in the US has been ignored. There's certain facts that don't want to be discussed because the focus is on guns and scary ARs themselves. Liberals have done a good job of convincing people that guns are bad and their sheer existence is the cause of gun violence rather than the real issues. We can continue to compare the US to other countries but it doesn't paint a pretty statistical picture for those advocating for stricter gun laws and regulations. Gun laws in Central and South America, Asia, and Africa are much more strict than the US and they all require a lengthy/more strict licensing process and some require a separate license for each firearm accompanied by a competency test yet they have a higher murder rate per capita. The US is ranked 3rd in population of the world but has consistently ranked in the 90s for homicide rate per capita for nearly the past 10 years. Since the late 90s, murders of all types - including murders committed by gun - have dropped. In fact, the murder rate now is even lower than what it was in the late 80s, it's still lower today than it has been at any given time in the past 4 decades. It's all in the Bureau of Justice Statistics, people just want to raise arms because the media told them to. The mass shootings are horrible ordeals we can all agree, but what explains when Clinton's AWB ban was in place and the gun murders were higher than they are today without the ban? If we want to find a common ground, we should be looking at what can be done to remedy the biggest chunk of people from committing the biggest chunk of gun murders. We are barking back and forth but offering no solutions. I'm not trying to be a moderator but unless honest common sense solutions are offered, then it's just complaining. The statistics are there and prove that gun laws and bans don't work and gun murder today is lower than it has been in the past 4 decades. What solution can everyone rally behind?
I talk to Canadians also, but I just wanted to know why their bacon was so good. Let’s let the CDC do a real study on violence, gun violence, let your congressmen know you want to see this study, if you don’t want it, then I ask, what are you afraid of?
