Okay I have a martin bow wich I love but I think the origonal string is crap I have access to a bow vice if need be. Would it be feasable to change my own string or is there a magical thing about it that I need to know? I am a do it myself kind of guy, I enjoy working on my own bow.

You can do it. However I would recommend taking pics and measurements of where everything is. When I changed out my string on my own for the first time I couldn't remember how the new one went back on. I had to look at pics of the bow in a Cabela's catalog to figure it out!

You will need a bow press to change the string unless your bow allows string removal without one. You want to measure the string and cable(s) to make sure they are the correct length before putting them on. Know your bow's ATA and BH so that after putting the string/cables on you can adjust them to get the correct measurements. You will also need a scale to measure the DW so that you can get that correct. Pics is very good advice also. That's what I can think of right now.

Is it nescessary to replace both the string and the cable yearly or just the string?

I don't know about necessary but I woouldn't replace one without replacing the other(s). I also don't replace them based on time but more based on shots and/or appearance. How many shots on the string/worn out looking as opposed to a set time schedule (Yearly, every other year).
