    I agree, good post

You don't change people's minds by silencing critics, just the opposite.

I agree archer. As for Donald being stupid. It sucks I'll say. He had an expectation the private recording was going to stay private, but hey when you're up top you gotta be as careful as you can. Someone is always out to get you.

I'm a black man, I've used the n word a great deal earlier in life toward other black men, the way everyone hears us use it, just listen to any and almost all rap music. We shouldn't be using it either, it's not ok when our elders went through a lot of hard times while being called that word. That being said, I don't personally buy into the media hype over the whole incident. His actions and comments didn't personally hurt anyone of us so who cares. It's no surprise, there's millions of white people who don't care about us black people, he just got caught saying it out loud, so what.
People are so sensitive about anything nowadays and are super quick to cry, you can't even tell good jokes anymore because someone in earshot will get offended. The funniest jokes are the taboo ones about race, sexual orientation, weight ect.......
I just feel he was dumb for getting recorded, bad for business when half your employees are black. He is still entitled to not like me because of who I am. That's what used to make this country great, the freedoms we had........now you can't say or do anything because someone might not like it........can't hurt anyone's feelings.

It was a private conversation between him and his "girlfriend". She recorded it and leaked the nine minutes of it, which is what the world got to hear. Wonder how long the actual conversation was?

Don't get me wrong, I think this guy is a racist. The NAACP sued him years ago for housing discrimination, then gave him a humanitarian award years later, after a healthy donation. Where was the NBA commissioner then?

Once private property and private conversations aren't private, we all better be scared!

Regardless, he knew he was being recorded. Just because I know something is being recorded doesnt mean one shouldn't expect privacy. Its like home videos, its being recorded but you have the expectation it'll stay close hold. But I heard there was a third person in the room?

I don't buy that he knew he was being recorded. Think about it - you sit down and all of a sudden your girlfriend says "Hey I'm going to record our conversation for awhile, that ok?" What would you say if your significant other tried that with you? Most would probably say " WTF, why? Not a chance"

She reportedly was his archivist. He had her record conversations on a regular basis.

Yeah...the dude is a bit of an egomaniac. Let's try not to understand the mind of a billionaire in love with the sound of his own voice.

So at the end of the day, there are racist comments we can overlook... and there are some we are incensed by. It evidently boils down to whether the person is serious... whether he is joking... whether he is a billionaire... whether he is white toward minorities... or a minority toward minorities or a minority toward non minorities AND which minority is being disparaged or dong the disparaging. A person's likeability comes into play as well. People like Charles... he gets laughed at... people don't like Sterling... he gets maligned. It's all too complicated for me. So maybe the best thing for me to do is forego judging what people say so much because I am not capable of understanding what someone means... if I don't know the person or the situation. I would be quick to point out an example of each of us considering our own hearts and say... those who have COMPLETELY conquered all racism in their own hearts, ALL of it, let him cast judgment. ...

Is that the sound of stones being dropped, I hear?

You don't think we all realize their is a double standard when it comes to racism? This isn't actually new information. Is there some other point to your thread that I'm missing?

I guess not, except as usual, maybe some of the folks screaming the loudest haven't dealt with it in their own life... well you already know this.

It's kind of like when we were kids and someone broke wind... the guilty dog always barked first. :tu:

Definitely... I think we have beat that drum to pieces. It's not so much the double standard but the idea that so many think they have put the issue to bed... and maybe they have publicly... but privately... there are a lot of closet Sterlings out there. To me that is the take away. I can see... in the coming months... someone else who was beating the drum loudest will slip up and say something privately that gets publicized. Maybe something to do with sexual orientation and it will ignite a whole new debate.
