I've just recently purchased a new compound, a PSE Momentum. My first compound since 92 and I must say I'm really enjoying rekindling an old flame, shooting & hunting with a compound! I'm 55 and I must say these new compounds are unreal smooth, quiet, and easy to shoot, and FAST!!

I got to remembering the old days after reading the Thread about old bear bows on the Tech section. In 1980 I got my first compound, a Black Bear, one of Bears cheaper bows but all I could afford, my first son due to be born soon. I guess what really feels good is remembering several good friends, one especially who used to shoot with me all the time. He died in 2011! He was better established and got a Brown Bear, a really classy bow. Our boss at work got a Whitetail Hunter, probably as popular a hunting bow around here as any. I started with the old Gamegetter aluminum arrows as did everybody else. I growed up a squirrel hunter and we thought it something to be chasing deer with a bow. And around here at that time the deer population was just getting started. It was bucks only and I frustratingly never managed a shot at a buck. Regardleass is was some fine & enjoyable years in my life that I remember so well and the gear also. I also remember how I loved reading every bowhunting magazine I could get my hands on, especially Bowhunter!

Now I could mention a lot of the old names from that time that wrote in those but I guess the one that I always loved to read the most where written by Dwight Schuh. I also always had an eye for the gear they used and I remember him toting a PSE Citation Hunter for a number of years. It and the Jennings Arrow Star where the Elite bows of their days along with the Bear Alaskan, all 3 being 4-whell compounds. I used to drool for one but $'s where tight then. A little later I managed to buy me a Bear Whitetail II, an also cheaper bow that Bear came out with but it was a real winner as far as performance and I got the xx75's Autumn Orange arrows. I declare I shot this bow very well, but I also got away from bowhunting shortly after.

Just remembering some good times and old bows that where really interesting to me, and most of all several good friends that shared it me. There was several other bows that really used to get my attention that I never managed to shoot but like old cars would enjoy picking em back up today! I hope this might bring back some good old memories to someone else!

I started with a Bear Whitetail II when i was 19. The draw length was too long and I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Missed two does with it, but have great memories of that bow.

My first compound bow was a hand me down from my dad when I was 13. (1989) A bear black bear. I still have it and shoot it on occasion, the bow has never killed a deer. I think I owe it to the bow next season to pop a doe with it! My next bows I got when I was 14, from my dad again. A PSE vector, I took dozens of deer with this bow, and finally upgraded 4 years ago only due to cracking limbs.

My first bow was a recurve. My Dad's 50lb Paul Bunyon. Neither one us ever shoot a deer with it but it was deadly against hay bails. Back then they would set them up in the park with the kids in the swings in back of them. Those were the days. Ron Regean was president and I was thin!!!

Thanks for the pic SS! That was the first election I voted in and I voted for Reagan. Sure wish I's voting for him or his equal again!
