I have had the same release for about 14 years. I have wore out the wrist band and looking for a new one. There are a lot more choices out there then there were 14 years ago. What are the opinions of releases and why?
Releases are a lot like bows. Personal preference reins king. For me I like single caliper with a small jaw, a crisp adjustable trigger, and an adjustable length. As far as why its hard to say for me on the single caliper. In all honestly I don't think it matters a whole lot the single caliper is just what I am used to. The small jaws I like because I had have a friend that has a release with big jaws and sometimes its a pain to watch him get those big jaws in the d-loop. I can see it causing big problems in stand with adrenaline pumping and your hands being cold. Almost everything has an adjustable length anymore. I like ones with set screws. The one I have now is a release threaded on a bolt with a stop nut. It comes loose all the time and I will probably have a new release by summer because of it. I like an adjustable trigger for the same reason I like an adjustable length. That way your not stuck with a one trick pony. I don't think you can go wrong with anything from Scott, Tru-fire, or Tru-ball.
I have had a Scott and this year I bought a Cobra to try it out. Seems to work nice so far. As you said. There is way to many to choose from these days.
I just bought a scott silverhorn and really like it! It just has the little hook the goes in the string loop and is really easy to hook up and very comfortable to shoot,
Also check out thumb releases. I use one and to me it feels a lot more comfortable to shoot with that a wrist release.
I agree I went from a wrist release to a tru fire 4 finger edge. Love it. Feels 10 times better to me than my wrist release.
Not sure that I would be able to hold onto a thumb release when drawing on really cold mornings - sometimes I can barley feel my fingers but I'm sure many could handle it :-) I've been shooting a Fletcher Fletchhunter Deluxe. Everyone will have their preferences... I've come to prefer releases that don't have large plastic pieces that go from the strap to the caliper... http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe...y_Fletchunter_Release_with_Deluxe_Wrist_Strap
I just got a tru-fire edge in today, shot about 75 arrows with it and it did very well. Really like the ability to fold back, and its easy to adjust the length and set it, and the trigger adjustment is pretty easy too, just have to have a really small allen wrench.
I was kind of thinking the same thing at first, but when your drawing on a deer you forget that your cold and can't feel you fingers
