    Hello. Just registered.. I have gotten into bowhunting over the past 2 seasons.. I have a Hoyt bow.. I currently have a cheaper cobra release that has a strap sewn on.. Im really wanting a strapless release. Can you all give me some ideas on decent ones ? I see they can get pretty expensive but i dont feel I need a high dollar one,just a good all around release.. thanks in advance

    Jason - welcome aboard! Hopefully you'll find some good info here, and maybe make a few friends while you're at it.

    As for your question - any particular reason you're looking at getting away from a release with a wrist strap? I know for me personally I've found them much better than those without a strap. Not only was I always worried about losing my old release in the woods somewhere, but it took a lot more concentration to shoot it properly, and more gripping power from my hand. Having a wrist strap allows me to pull more with my arm/back than what felt like my hand/forearm.

    FYI - I shot with a strapless release for probably the first 6-7 years I hunted before I got my first HHA Zero Gap. Since then I haven't looked back.

    We like the wriststrap kind. It's always right there where you want it and you have no concerns about dropping it. And pulling it back seems very smooth. I've never tried any other kind but I like this so well I never will.

    I prefer the wrist strap as well...you can get a really good one for $55-$75. I use a Tru-Fire and love it...I've shot the same one for four years and never had to use my back up...it has never failed me.

    There are several styles out there as well. Hook realease, caliper, single jaw. The best thing to do is go to a local pro shop and try them out. For a decent price I like TruBall's and True Fire's... For a little bit more, my hands down favorite are Scott's. I personally shoot the little bitty goose and love it. Small head, straight trigger, and I can really "tuck" into my anchor point.

    I can't give you any input on the strapless design. But if your looking to one with a wrist strap Scott has always offered quality releases. But to tell you the truth i've been using the Tru-fire Patriot that i bought as a starter release four years ago and still haven't had a reason to upgrade. I only paid 16 bucks for it and it is yet to fail me and i haven't noticed anything wrong with it. IMO its all about finding the right release for you, so like others have already mentioned go to shop and try a couple out.

    Jason, I switched from strapped to strapless and I love it. I think I paid $40-$50 for mine...

    See my post here---> http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?t=13833

    I also shoot this one, but I took that big thumb tab off, I like the smaller profile.
    Tru-Fire

    Welcome to the site, and good shootin'!

    X2...the TruBall's are very good also and you can pick one up for about $30.

    I prefer a wrist strap release like most hunters. Anything Scott makes is a Great release, but I like my Carter 2 Shot better than any of my Scott's.
