As I was hunting today, I could smell sweat. I figured it out it was my release. Any idea on how to get ride of the smell. I spay it down and I still could of smell it. Should I soak it in scentless detergent. It metal, I worried about rust? Any idea. Thanks I didnt see anything tonight huh?????
hand wash it in the sink with scentless detergent, dry it off, and then put some 3 in 1 oil on it. Its what i put on my guns and releases every once in a while to keep the rust away.
These are all good ideas but sometimes I think that the whole scent free thing has gone too far. I mean either the deer is going to smell you or its not. The ONLY thing I believe that plays a determining factor in if a deer smells you or not is the wind.
If you wash it and worry about rust, dry the metal parts with a hair dryer. Won't take too long and it will be completely dry.
I have two of the exact same release. One for practice and one for only hunting Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Get 2 of the same release that you use! Use one for hunting and one for practicing! This will help eliminate this problem. Still spray it down before you head in the woods. Then, when you wash them in scent free detergent and then lay it outside to dry. DDW makes a scent free oil that works really well for the metal parts. I wash mine release a few times a year.
i use a scott caliper grip release, it is rubber which is good for preventing scent build up. plus i like the feel of the weight of drawing my bow being in my hand and not on my wrist, better for making me one with my equipment.
Store the release with a scent wafer. I keep my release in my bow case with a couple scent wafers and hope they cover some of my stank ;-)
after you wash and dry it, seal it inside a tupperware container with an open box/container of baking soda for 2 days. Baking soda will absorb the smell rather than cover it. I bought a used car years back that had been heavily smoked in. I left open boxes of baking soda in there for a week or so and the smell was pretty much gone. Granted, I don't have a deer's nose but I can pick up cigarette smoke smell pretty quick.
