I'm curious. How many of you guys/gals hunt from some sort of tower blind whether it is homemade or manufactured? I'm looking in to these for the first time. There is one part of our farm that isn't "impossible" but it is extremely difficult to hunt. The north side is all timber that leads in to the creek bottom and the south side is all crop ground. There is a 2 acre food plot that lays right against the timber. There is a great place to put a tower blind along the fence row that divides the food plot from the farm ground. As it stands right now I have a tree stand in a cluster of 3 Post Oaks. It is a tricky entrance and exit. It is right where the 2 bucks were tonight. A south wind is a "no go" no matter what. Personally I don't like hunting from a blind. It is just my personal opinion but if it gets the boys fired up about hunting then I'm in. Thoughts/Comments? Our boys are asking more and more about going hunting. This would be a great way to get them involved and hide their movements/noise.
We have a couple of rednecks on the ranch (and some hunting blinds too ) and I've had elevated home made platforms for years here at home. I don't like to bowhunt from them but they are incredible to rifle hunt from. The Rednecks are really nice, they don't look like all that much until you hunt from one then you can appreciate them more for their quality and design. Especially so if you ever sit in one of the cheap built hunter specialty (or whatever) type blinds. I like to build my own with post style construction with 4x4 posts, they're easy to build. I use dimensional lumber and build them in 8x8 x 10' tall and nice wooden stairs. I can build them cheaper and nicer than the rednecks if I have the time to do it.
I agree with covey. The redneck blinds are nice, if price isn't an issue. They are very expensive. You can build one very easy and cheap, and if you build it right, it'll last for years. As for hunting out of them, I think you'd have better luck designing your own for bowhunting than getting the redneck blind. I feel like the redneck blind is more of a rifle hunting setup.
That's what I was wondering. It appears that even though they say they are for bow hunting that it looks like the shots are much more limited. I appreciate the info!!
When we went to IL I was set up in a Redneck blind. They also threw in a little heater. I said I'd never be able to hunt PA again because they spoiled me with the luxury of that stand. If they weren't so expensive I'd buy one and actually hunt when the snow was flying.
That is where we are at on the price issue. They are definitely HIGH but everyone talks about how nice they are inside.
Yeah, they are nice inside. The one I was in was carpeted, insulated, and the windows even had curtains! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
The Rednecks are very, very nice. Maybe you don't need that nice, since you could probably build 3 for the price of 1 Redneck. I like the idea of mounting the Redneck to a trailer so that it is mobile.
Put one up and throw a heater in it. Perfect for kids to start hunting out of. My dad put one up many years ago. A lot of deer and turkey have been shot out of it. Heater doesn't seem to bother the deer. Shot my buck last year out of it with heater running. Blind spots can be a problem, but that is what also makes it so great for kids and movement.
Build one. If you have the equipment, you can build one in a day. I built one a few years back using 34' telephone poles, cut in half. I have the floor at 12' right now but plan to move it down a little bit this summer and add better stairs to it. Will likely build at least one more as well. Not sure how much bow hunting I will do out of it but my dad will use it for slug hunting.
